I'd go out on a limb and say... yes.

These people are professional athletes. Being paid for their skill, athleticism, professionalism, attention to training etc.

To get pissed (to that level) during a competition season (ie after you've started training for that season) is probably risky behaviour, that has resulted in the punishment.

The player had a choice about his behaviour - with this punishment (stood down until trial) more players might think about their choices, and the impact on their professional lives. If they don't like the sacrifice at this elite, professional level, choose a different profession, or run around in park footy and get pissed all you like.

I think you`ve nailed it right there, Bartman.

OK, nice bar you've set there. One thing needed is consistency.

Player 1 gets pissed, has accusations made and is charged by coppers, stood down, misses a season and is cleared/found not guilty.

Player 2 gets pissed, punches someone, but no charges are pressed - does he sit out for the year?

I'm not defending anyone, I'm just not sure it's black and white

In my job (and probably countless others) if I get pissed and it is alleged that I committed some offense AND the media gets hold of it, I`m in DEEP sh*t with my employer whether I`m found guilty of the offense or not. If I`m eventually found guilty, I`m in DEEPER sh*t. So it`s just the depth of the sh*t that we`re looking at. I suppose they could think about different levels of punishment corresponding to the different levels of sh*t; but then you would need some sort of measuring stick to poke into the sh*t to determine how deep it is. Some sort of sh*tomometer is needed.

It's not bad, it's terrible.

That Wes dickhead is nothing but a soulless, generic pub rock tryhard. The song is terrible and the ad fits the song.

Take a look at the Origin ad*. Something along those lines - basically just people beating each other up - is exactly what league is all about and it's exactly what we need to advertise.

*With the exception of the Matt Cooper bit. He looks totally gay in that part. Get rid of it.

Song is great IMO, I liked before I knew it was going to be NRL theme. Wes isn't that bad, I'm not a huge fan of Aust Isol, but he is definately one of the better ones to come out of it
