New recruits for 2023

We have some promising young juniors coming through and are stuck with a player like Woods who no other club wants. What we need it just 3 top forwards to help the Dragons compete and maybe a seasoned fullback, just in case Sloan fizzes out again.

Surrey, the Dragons recruitment team is aware of this. I imagine that they are just waiting for a bargain opportunity to present itself.

Not that many decent "bargains" left I don't think possm for 2023. I'd like to think that what we have coming through will be getting more first grade time to ready them for 2024.

Is there a YouTube video with some cool rap music in the background that I can watch to confirm that he is a competent attacking coach?
No. It got cut because it took too many takes to create some highlights. The producer gave up!

Can't see us signing more forwards for 2023, not props/locks anyway as we now have 10 on the books - 11 if we use Bird at lock. But with just 3 second rowers in Su'a, Burns and Fui and just the one Hooker we're going to be in deep pooh if any of those get injured. We could end up with JDB, Musgrove or others playing 2nd row. Hopefully we're still chasing a quality 2nd rower or two and either Muhleisen or Haele Finau turn out to be viable options for back up hooker.
All we can hope for now is a clean out at the end of this year and a spending spree for a decent 2024 Roster.

No doubt you are right Dragon David. I am just tired of writing off the coming season in hope that there is something good down the road for the next season.

To me, it seems as if the Club is going all out for 2024 to ensure Dean Young gets off to a good start.

I know how you feel possm. Just don't give up hope on how you would want the Dragons to be. I feel sure that our good years will not be too far away.

2023 Top 30 & Development Lists for each club - https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...s/news-story/641faf38d6a3560fa635dd8a69b33922

Our squad:

27 of the 30 man squad filled (unless I have miss-counted)

How do we fill those remaining spots, given short-comings (mentioned below) and coverage potentially being needed for Ramsey and Amone not being available in the immediate future?

As mentioned by others in this thread, we are still supremely light on for back rowers. Su'a, Burns, Fuimaono - unfortunately these guys don't have a good track record with injuries and the judiciary.

What role will Jack Bird play? Does he play permanently on the edge, or in the middle at lock, or will Hook take the conservative route and start him in the halves with Junior now benched indefinitely?

Is Suli going to spend some time in the back row this season?

Is Chereb ready for some game time in first grade?

Our middle forward options are solid without being spectacular. Looking forward to seeing Lawrie take his game to another level this season. The Molo brothers should continue to improve. Coric has a bright future hopefully. JDB should be starting at 13 most weeks, but expect him more in the props rotation. Musgrove, BMM, Woods, Kerr, Lui-Toso - depth.

Hooker is a major concern. Sam Verrills was off contract (Roosters > Titans)... but we went for Jacob Liddle? Verills would have most of us feeling a bit more positive at this time, whereas Liddle is very much an unknown (as is Muhleisen being ready to step up if needed). The luxury of possibly playing Hunt at 9 is also out the window now as well. Verrills, IMO, could have been a 'McInnes 2017' type of signing for us.

My best 17 (given what we know so far)

1. Sloan
2. Feagai (Matt)
3. Feagai (Max)
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa

6. Sullivan
7. Hunt

8. Molo (Francis)
9. Liddle
10. Lawrie
11. Suli
12. Su'a
13. Bird

14. Molo (Michael)
15. de Belin
16. Murdoch-Masila
17. Mbye

The 17 that Hook will probably go with (had to do it lol):

1. Mbye
2. Feagai (Matt)
3. Suli
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa

6. Bird
7. Hunt

8. Molo (Francis)
9. Liddle
10. Lawrie
11. Burns
12. Su'a
13. de Belin

14. Molo (Michael)
15. Woods
16. Murdoch-Masila
17. Sullivan (5-10 minute cameo at the end of the game)

Kit66,
The window for signing top line players the 2024 season will be over in about 3 months at the latest. Only fringe first graders , has beens and youngsters will be available after that point.
Saints can not even start to negotiate with top line players for season 24 if they don’t announce who the coach will be.
At the moment it is unlikely that Griffen will be sacked before April , therefore season 2024 is also unlikely to see any new big recruits !!!

Aw mate, if you see someone on the edge about to leap off, you're supposed to talk them down, not yell "Might as well jump ! ya loser" 😆

Haha, that Hook 17 would break the internet.
Mbye at 1 and Bird at 6 from round one.
Be funny to see.

A lot of 'faith' being put into Rava completing a full season with a hammy issue.
There's probably enough cover there for Rava. Ramsey if he can come back in 2023 is an option although I don't expect him to be playing much if any first grade this year unfortunately. Max Feagai is another option, and we still have Tautau Moga who actually didn't do a terrible job for us last year , he was just slow so other options might be preferred this time around. There was also talk Alex Lobb might earn a top 30 spot, so he could debut, and once development players are able to play first grade in 2023, he or Sione Finau are both potential options.

He started last season with a bang. Injuries got to him throughout the year and hampered his impact especially from the backfield

We need Rav back to his barnstorming best.
Him in 2021 carting the ball up against Newy straight into a 4 man shoulder charge from Kurt Mann, Connor Watson and the Saifiti Bros and scattering them like bowling pins was awesome, need more of that, followed up with similar runs from Suli.

Yes and everyone talking about his suspensions. They were from 2021 also and it is clear he has worked on that

I'm really not on board with Suli to the back row

I get he's a great ball runner but that's out wide and in a position he's played his whole career. Back row is more hole running with tighter defences and significantly more tackling for him which may detract from his offence.

His best value to the team for me is in the centres
