I recall we were first linked with Liddle long before the deal ended up actually going through. I remember thinking, and posting then that Liddle would be a great buy. A couple agreed, but some laughed and mocked the idea. Good on the guy for coming through his injury woes (touch wood) and playing so well. He is fast becoming a fan favourite too which is really pleasing. Like you say, how the tigers didn't keep/play him over Simpkin is an absolute mystery, but their loss is our gain.
This is what I wrote back in September 2022 -
"I know that Liddle was much younger in this video clip, but I can certainly see that he has a good footy mind and does attack with a lot of speed. I think that he would be good for the club going forward and hope that he can put his injuries behind him.

A one year contract, possibly with an option I guess either way, to see what he can give us. I'm thinking that if he can play to his potential and hopefully can defend well, he might be the long term hooker at the club."

I stand by what I said.

People will often bag every signing the club makes. I remember the same for Sua and Suli before they quickly turned in to fan favourites as well. Just goes to show its important to keep an open mind and not judge a player until you've seen them play.

At least Hasler will ensure that any replacement players are an improvement on those shown the door. He has form in developing good first-grade players and understands the importance of a strong spine.

I am sure a team under Hasler would have:
Ramsey or a marquee player at fullback
Sloan at 5
Amone at 6 if available
A marquee halfback
Hunt at and Liddle in the hooker rotation
Ravalawa as an edge forward off the bench
F Molo and Blocker as run-on props
De Belin and Fifita in the prop rotation.
Sullivan at 14 when not injured

Su'a contracted til end of 2024. You gonna have to wait 7 months to have that chat, Wayne.
The two actual quotes in this article were Wayne said if Su'a became free that he would then talk to him (context seemed to be in response to "Wayne would you be interested" - now Wayne would never plant that seed just before a STG v REDC game would he). Jayden when asked to comment responded with my family and myself are happy in Wollongong - if I play well I hope to get an extension down here... Hence the media join the dots and come up with Su'a heading back to Wayne... lets hope not.
As for the rest of the article - we have 24 players signed for 23 & 24 seasons and the Tele printed a list of our players. WOW - can I assume all other clubs have 28-30 players signed until the end of 2025?

Surely we start negotiating with Liddle if we haven't already. If Kerr can keep his form up too, I don't see a reason not to re-sign him on either a 1 or 2 year deal, keep him honest and working. At the very least, Kerr will provide better depth than some others in our ranks.
Be weary of the player who's form changes the last year of his contract - looking for his next multi year deal. I see Kerr as a season by season player... if he walks look at the past 2-3 seasons and that is what you have lost.

Good for you Parko, you could see the tree through the forest and the club is finally doing that.

Liddle and Sullivan have a question mark over their risk of injury. It won't be until later on in the season that we can judge the value of these players.

Wayne being Wayne I suppose and media being the media again.

I could be totally off the mark however, back at Souths, I think Wayne was looking at Jayden's best interests when he came to us.

Sloan's skills will be wasted at wing. If not at fullback then in the halves. I reckon he and Amone would make a good combo.. his ball skills with his Three Amigo mate's running skills.
If we can get a marquee half then no need for a makeshift one. Des should be made aware of a half running around in Ball/ Flegg by the name of Nicholas Quinn. Looks a good'n.
Rava or Suli as edge forwards. The Couchman twins could also make good edge forwards.
Not sold on Frank prefer his brother Mike in our pack and give him decent minutes. Instead Hasler should look at Musgrove or our local junior Josh Coric or Alec Tuitavake as starting book ends.
There is only one position for JDB, lock, a position he has made his own his entire career and should finish with it.
If Suli is moved to the pack Des should take a squizz at former Waratah Savelio Tamale to slot into his centre spot, a class act this kid.
Des should immediately reinstate Zac Lomax and either terminate the contract of Murdoch/Masila or send him to Ressies.. ditto Jack Bird.
