A new virus called 'Opaserv worm' has hit my main computer and shafted it completely.
I have formatted my C drive to regain windows but my second hard drive (D Drive) which has all my data has been locked out. Windows insists that I format this drive as well but it carries in it 8 years of data so I'm trying to find an alternative.
The way Opaserv worm works is to access computers which have the 'share option' open. That is, if you have network cards and share data with another computer. This apparently creates a gateway for the worm to get in and the next time you re-boot your computer you get blocked with the following message:
NOTICE:
Illegal Microsoft Windows license detected!
You are in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!
Your unauthorized license has been revoked.

The www.bsa.org site have denied any knowledge of this virus. The message is a complete lie.
BSA have put up some solutions, which don't do enough imo.
In any case, I urge anyone who has the share option enabled on their computer to also enable the password protection. According to the anti-virus websites, this stops the worm dead in its tracks.

In the meantime, I'll try and get the old girl up and running asap.
Apparently the virus was caused by those with an axe to grind and thought Xmas holidays was the best time to wreck computers.
Kids with brains but no commonsense... bastards! They never show their cowardly faces... that being because they would get their teeth smacked in.
