I think there’s only ever been 1 main grandstand with the rest being uncovered seated areas.

TBF @Hey you guys is correct, there's only ever been one main "grandstand", the area that link is talking about is just uncovered seating being removed. It's still a ground that would meet NRL requirements.![]()

Just to confirm, I'm not advocating for it as a base for a team.
Bro, if they ever inserted a team in that ground the 12k grandstand would be enough to cover the crowd. You need to think in long term, not in the Warriors hype train of 2023/24. Also, it would be pretty easy to add temporary seating along one side to make it a full rectangular ground again. Moana Pasifika play out of it next year, which seems bonkers as it's not the main area of the PI population in Auckland, so they wont get crowds big enough to test the theory.Agreed but it’s not fit for rectangular sports anymore. Not with the crowds expected for an Auckland rl side
The idea was good in theory for a geographical north side divide just not realistic
If rugby league really takes off and Wellington and chch have sides potentially a Hamilton side ? ???
Either way that’s not happening for25 to 50 years if ever

Another northern team should be a distant third in the options for a team 2.
Obviously a firm No to Auckland 2.
In the event of a second NZ team however, I wonder about a possible away game at Eden Park.
Let's say the Sharks and Raiders play their home games against the Warriors and SI at Eden Park?
Double header..
Example:
Saturday 3.30pm NZ time ( 5.30pm Aus)
Sharks vs Warriors
5.30pm NZ time (7.30pm Aus)
Raiders vs South Island

What happens if the new cbd stadium gets built will the warriors move there full time
Can’t see mt smart getting an upgrade
The warriors should also be taking marquee games to Eden park like the Anzac Day game
And finals
Forgot about that pub yeh that’s a good pointI believe the Warriors have said something vague like “we’d definitely consider it if the deal was right”. Would also depends what happens to Mt Smart if there is a reshuffle, you’d imagine Auckland should want to keep a mid-sized stadium but who knows.
Mt Smart could do with some minor upgrades, or at least get the Northern bank opened again to allow a few thousand extra GA hill tickets to be sold.
As for Eden Park, they’ve got the pub across the road now, you’d think it’s a matter of time before they look at taking a game or 2 there again.
I don't they'll ever do the CBD stadium but if they do then all the teams should play there (league, rugby and soccer).Didn’t know they were giving up mt smart
Given the capacity in Wellington and chch seated north harbour would be an awful choice for a team
Not like the crowds that Moana pacika side were decent anyway

That’s a very interesting idea about a blues / warriors double headerI don't they'll ever do the CBD stadium but if they do then all the teams should play there (league, rugby and soccer).
I don't know if there is much desire at Warriors headquarters to play at Eden Park. I'm not sure if they think they can fill it - remembering they had the opportunity to keep the increased stand capacity after the ABs test at Mt Smart and they chose not. I like the idea of Blues and Warriors double headers at Eden Park though, the only issue would be working out agreements on the gate etc.
Also, for finals, I think they lose some of their home ground advantage doing that and only for the sake of say 10k more fans through the door.
I may have been dreaming but for some reason I think it has been done before. That’s a very interesting idea about a blues / warriors double header

They should have done it in Melbourne to, but that ship has sailedI may have been dreaming but for some reason I think it has been done before.

yeah, I remember watching on tv the kiwis playing the Aussies a couple of times there in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and only ever remembering the stadium having one main decent looking touchline grandstand with the rest of the ground being your standard uncovered seating.TBF @Hey you guys is correct, there's only ever been one main "grandstand", the area that link is talking about is just uncovered seating being removed. Think it was due to happen over covid but covid killed itI may have been dreaming but for some reason I think it has been done before.
Pretty sure it was supposed to have another grandstand built originally but had a soft opening with just the one stand but it became a bit of a white elephant and it never happened. Pretty sure I’ve even heard of a roof been bandied around in the pastyeah, I remember watching on tv the kiwis playing the Aussies a couple of times there in the late 90’s and early 2000’s and only ever remembering the stadium having one main decent looking touchline grandstand with the rest of the ground being your standard uncovered seating.
that main grandstand design at north harbour kind of reminds me of the stadium in Huddersfield and how it could have been and looked much better with an identical grandstand on the opposite touchline side.
incidentially I think I’m right in believing that the kiwis have a pretty good record at the stadium against the Aussies with 2 wins, a draw and 1 loss.
Yeah and covid killed the Tuatara off anyway. The had some sort of relationship with the Auckland NBL team (basketball) which is still around with the Tuatara nameBaseball.
WTF!!!
Is the pub the warriors own at Eden park a warriors themed pub or just your normal pub near a stadium?I believe the Warriors have said something vague like “we’d definitely consider it if the deal was right”. What or who was it actually originally built for?Pretty sure it was supposed to have another grandstand built originally but had a soft opening with just the one stand but it became a bit of a white elephant and it never happened. Pretty sure I’ve even heard of a roof been bandied around in the past
