I feel like having a rant.. Not aimed at anyone here.
3-4 yrs ago the ARLC ( PVL & Abdo) publicly stated that they (ARLC) were opening bids for 3 new expansion teams. We all knew that PNG was going to be one (soft diplomacy) Perth-SEQ - Central Coast and NZ2x3 all put submissions forward. All were rejected.
Now this is me from NZ2 (Orcas) point of view. I don't know what all the other bids from every where have been doing - this is just the ORCAS.
They re-jigged the submission - were willing to pay ANY license fee the ARLC required.
They had had meetings with approx. 25 different schools to set up League teams and were successful.
They HAVE resource consent (needed in NZ) to build a COE in Rolleston (20min out of CHCH)
They (the backers of the ORCAs) OWN an entertainment quarter (PUB/Restaurant/offices) just down from the NEW COVERED STADIUM.
They (the backers) have spent tens of thousands of $$$$ on feasibility studies and the two public faces (Lowe & Chambers) have spent months and months talking to and arranging face to face meets with potential Coaching staff and all that that requires.
They were organizing junior satellite academies (x 25) with education systems built in - from Wellington to Dunedin.
I could go on ... but I won't.
Then.... Abdo states yesterday while at Magic Round that there WON'T be a new side in NZ for the foreseeable future.
When pressed to a time line - he couldn't even say if 2032 is a possibility. !!!!
I very much doubt if they (ARLC) could name the stadium in ChCh or how many it seats - or the same with the Dunedin one. Or the population of the South Island.
I have thought all along that they were ever only paying lip service to having a NZ2.
Bit of conspiracy theory - lol - is it strange that PVL and George Cameron are BOTH CEO's of the Racing industries in both their countries.
I truly believe that they are tone deaf - League in NZ has NEVER been as popular as it is right now. I played throughout the 80's and early 90's and it is just sooo much bigger now.
You could actually feel the excitement of a 2nd NRL side in NZ. It was palpable. - Now - the exact opposite is the feeling - and that is palpable as well....
ok I've finished.
