Orcas is a goods strong brand, black, white and teal colour maybe?
If the bid was looking for a brand that will appeal outside just the South Island, they've done well..

* It's the current Wellington team nickname, so has some appeal to the league establishment there (presumably co-opted in, too)

* Orca have a range that covers pretty much all of NZ's coastline, not just limited to the South Island like Kea

* Black, white & teal spring to mind as a colourset option, but the key here is that they have plenty of scope for something that's "province neutral" - key for uniting a potential fanbase through the South Island and at least some of the North.

[Edit] I seem to remember an advert for the old "Wellington Dolphins" bid in the early 1990s that had a black & teal jersey mock-up, which was oddly split diagonally between black & teal sections.

Now you don’t have to wait 15 years for a Wellington nrl team

Yeah, and to be honest a RELIABLE game or two per year from a Christchurch-based team is the best Wellington can hope for at this stage.

I was thinking of a downside that it could preclude a Wellington-based team in the future.. BUT I think once NZ has 2 teams it's gonna be a long time before we may see a 3rd (if it ever happens).

Imagine if the NRL worked 3 games into the NZ rivalry... 3rd one played in Wellington.

Yeah, wasn’t really about the designs. Was just about seeing the colours together because reading above that it would be a good colour combination isn’t something I was agreeing on picturing it in my head.

Adding the expansion colour of red to it makes it look better I reckon.
Two colours that aren't used much in the NRL are orange and green.

Teal & orange would be close to the Gold Coast Dolphins bid look.. and might be an interesting look.

Teal and green could be worth considering, if they strike the right shades.

There's a reason why some colour combinations are overlooked...

I believe they had a bid when the Central Coast Bears was a thing …been dead over a decade though right?
Yeah the original Orcas bid was at the time the Titans got in, that one was Wellington based primarily with some games split with CHCH, the local Wellington rep team adopted it as their name after the bid failed

Logo and Lowes polo imply black with white secondary and red accents? Remember criticism at the time with the Black/White/Teal colour scheme coupled with the mascot and the mock up jersey is it was too similar to the sharks
