I never made any predictions about the NRL deal (Te Kaha did) or the rugby deal. Furthermore, we don't have any confirmed figures for either rugby or the NRL, it's all just speculation about rugby and no idea about the NRL as there's been no indication about what any new deal will be anyway.

Captaincy seems to be a 2 horse race between JFH and Barnett, I’d suspect Webby will lean towards Barnett to take some pressure off JFH already with high expectations

Non-Warriors NRL games rate about as well as Super Rugby games with no NZ sides in them. In other words, poorly.

The Orca bid has me conflicted - the idea that they'd "cover" Wellington as a secondary market for a game (or games) each season offers a mouth-watering prospect for us game-starved fans here in the capital - and it DOES help broaden the prospective supporter base for that 2nd NZ team beyond just the 20% of NZ's population in the South Island.....

HOWEVER there's that nagging thought in my head that it might preclude the NRL from considering a 3rd NZ team for a long time - if ever - if the 3 biggest NZ cities can be "covered" by two teams.

Maybe it'd strategically be better for NZ in the long run if NZ 2 was a South Island focused team (Mostly Christchurch, some games in Dunedin.. maybe a trial in Nelson or on the West Coast), and the Warriors moving their one "Home away from home" game back to being in Wellington once NZ 2 debuts, until such time as NZ 3 happens (based in Wellington).

At that stage, the question would become "How do the Auckland & Wellington based teams divide the North Island?"

Might be as little as ten years

Depending on how successful Christchurch are (warriors too in terms of crowds etc)

And also how much money the nrl generate in future tv deals esp nz

The biggest issue to more teams is need more players so png and nz need time to grow

Plus lack of good coaches

Yip, that's the rub - if NZ 2 is a success & shows-up the Warriors, then that would indicate to the NRL that it's NOT a given that NZ clubs will underperform by default (because "NZ doesn't have a winning RL culture" right?)

Which opens the door for a 3rd NZ club.

I wouldn't be so fast to dismiss the chances of NZ 3.

All it takes is a change of administration to one that wants to more aggressively attack rugby union in it's stronghold.

We've already seen a sea-change from the Gallop years of umm-ing and ahh-ing to a "make things happen" setup now, who knows what the leadership might be thinking in 15-20 years time from now.
