New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

I don’t think it’s a good plan. You can have an extra game to sell to Aussie tv networks and a whole new team for tv in nz

But if they are coming in 2032 then it’s the last year of the next tv deal so it’s value will be basically nothing

2030 would be different

I wish they would take a few more chances ,,, they have essentially got PNG for nothing for 10 years…oh well… doesn’t look like it’s happening anytime soon …

Dolphins
PNG
Perth bears

If nz gets delayed it’s not the end of the world

But they won’t stay on 19 for long

As someone else said delay helps Ipswich

Also depends on warriors crowds and how the pacific cup goes this year

Without the kangaroos it should be a beauty

Depends if he’s giving his opinion, quoting from the article that was posted today or getting leaks from his mates inside the game

He may well be

Things change fast

If sky nz say they want another team asap then it will happen faster
he only said foreseeable future and put next tv deal time frame. seems reasonable to me.

It's all a bit of a fizzer isn't it? We've only had PNG.. but even then, no big reveal, jersey or even name.. now we're waiting on a state election...
If we're going with PNG let's have a big day with a launch, jersey reveal ect..
Now we're doing this soft thing with Perth..
Maybe..
If it's Perth, great let's put it up in lights, let's make it the next big thing!

Am I the only one seeing this all as too low key and boring?

I want to state for the record that the Warriors will have a good year and that conclusion isn't formed by the halves pairing , the forward pack.. everything that's been said about the Warriors so far is true. All those things matter but I'm tipping that the talking point for the Warriors will be about the centres.. both big, fast and agile..have a handful of games under each of them and a full off-season..Ali and Adam set for a breakout years, even Kosi.
Watch this space .
Definitely think we will go better than many are predicting. Squad is a tad light in a few spots and very risky if injuries hit in the outside backs or halves.
Ali 100% is an exciting prospect and I’ve been a big fan since his breakout game against Canberra in ‘23 - hopefully he can emulate his uncle. Pompey has been around the block a long time and has probably reached his potential- solid but not sure much else. We will be in big trouble if Kosi gets near the team apart from a small run of form a couple of years back he’s been awful including NSW cup level, he’s just can’t seem to get the basic errors out of his game. Will be interesting what happens when Berry comes back, don’t think he’s better than those 2 but seems to be a Webby favourite
Vaimauga and Halasima are the young ones outside of Ali that are really exciting for this year.

Vegas is getting all the attention now

Perth bears or png news now will be wasted

Kind of agree but Id also say that there is a few years between now and PNG kick off so it can be staged and the excitement built as we get near kick off.

Perth a bit different, if they had been happy with the bid we would have had a big media event with name etc at announcement time. Now we are back to negotiations, new ownership model and politics. Its likely we will get a staged announcement of that as well ie announcement of agreement and Perth being club 18 or 19, then the board ceo etc will be appointed and we will see a formal launch of the club at some point after that with name, logo, membership etc.

NZ who knows? I suspect NRL dont know what club 20 will be at this point.

Metcalf looked good in the trial I watched

The other guy not so good

They could throw jet cleary to the wolves and see how he goes at 6 and still have Boyd as well
CHT won out over TMM for round one and I think complements Metcalf better but is still a bit lacking and struggles in those big game moments. The time Jet got in the trials I think showed he’s a fair bit off first grade yet. Boyd has been almost invisible since signing that I suspect he’s not 100% fit

Don’t think they will miss sj or afb one bit

Delay with Perth bears may push timeline back six months which is 2033 or not

Focus is on tv deal

Part of that includes sky nz tv deal which obviously will involve discussions about nz2

Timing will be faster if sky nz indicates a second nz team will have value for them
Sky just got cricket rights back but are facing stiff competition from DAZN for union rights which could upend their business model , wether that means they go all in for NRL or not is the question

It was surprising to see the 'official agreement event' in PNG not have any ARLC member there? Cam Smith the best the NRL could do?
Like you said they will stage manage png al news to a quiet time

Obviously Perth bears will be the next announcement post Vegas

In terms of logos etc png haven’t begun the process with the public

Yeh forgot about them

Dazn may not even get the Aussie rights if Stan outbid them

But if they do and want to expand in nz then nz2 would be very valuable

Don’t think they will miss sj or afb one bit
AFB is a big loss but well negated with JFH and the kids coming through- would still rather have AFB than not though.
Busted 2024 SJ we won’t miss but 23 version we certainly will. Heir apparent hasn’t arrived yet and it was more likely than not 25 SJ would have been closer to 24SJ than 23SJ. Hopefully Metcalf kicks on but he’s not SJ peak level

Sj was a handbreak all last year

Warriors played better when they stood down afb then when they brought him back starting losing again

He just wasn’t interested anymore

Need a bit of luck early on to win those close games for confidence and not see Metcalf or jfh injured

Yeh let’s just ignore one of our biggest markets when it comes to expansion
you keep preaching to the converted here lol. I dont think there is anyone on here that doesnt think a Christchurch club would be a good move.
Why arent you asking the question why does the NRL keep ignoring the development of NZ?
