you keep preaching to the converted here lol. I dont think there is anyone on here that doesnt think a Christchurch club would be a good move.
Why arent you asking the question why does the NRL keep ignoring the development of NZ?
That is a good question, it's improved in recent years but still below the poverty line.
NZ should be inline with NSW and QLD funding structures and development wise. It's got a long way to go..
With all the players that come from NZ, a TV deal, internationals..
Rugby league doesn't deserve the amount of support it gets in NZ, yet it's massive .

It's like we went away on holidays for months neglecting the garden out back, only to return and see it thriving..

NZRL only get $6mill from sponsorship and what ever NRL fund. Its only increased 20% in 5 years (and we dont know how much of that was sponsorship or other NZ grants increase). Its still a pittance for a whole country. Whilst QRL gets around $26mill grant NZRL gets around $4mill.

qrl deserves a far superior grant as well considering they are a member of the arlc and have 14 full fledged clubs within their state comp and within those clubs all have pathway programs through multiple grades and juniors and most have school programs too. they also support an international club in papuan new guinea

but ya wouldn't know cause ya perthwrongs, ding dong

Qrl and nswrl are shareholders and can vote on the commission

And a lot of their money comes from origin

Arl ensured nz gets two test marches a year which obviously don’t make money like origin does

Spending 20 million on semi pro comp in nz would be a major waste of time compared to establishing a new nrl side

Setup junior pathways. That's worth $$$ unlimited money.

Use your brain.

Nrl clubs run elite junior pathways

Nz2 would be providing for up to 100 to 150 elite kids
You cant have "elite" without junior pathways.

At the moment, particularly in the South Island there is limited juniors.

Its not a big cost, and pays for itself very quickly.

I know your trolling but up to 40 percent of current nrl players are kiwis

All the Christchurch team has to do is cherry-pick the best kids from union system plus league

Union itself can’t even afford its current system and we would be crazy to copy it

Almost 50% of which is developed via Australian pathways (maybe more).

I know your anti-RL development but we need to invest in juniors to grow the game.

We can afford $25mill each to Qlnd and NSW, we have a significant surplus, we can afford more than $4mill to NZRL to grow the grassroots! This is a choice not a necessity. NRL doesnt care about growing NZ it seems.

Good point, though I would imagine if the NRL was to increase funding to NZRL they'd want more say in the running of the game here.

The devil is in the detail, but such a deal may not be all that bad.

I thought we wanted to grow that number? We will soon, potentially, have the need for 100 1st grade players extra.
Sure but it’s not like it’s a precondition for a second nrl team

Putting in a second nrl team will flow all the way down to schools rugby

They dont with the QRL and NSWRL. Ideally when the ARLC was formed NZRL should have had a seat at the table and funding that goes with it. Since then the ARLC has largely ignored funding NZRL any decent amount to grow the game there whilst being happy to pocket the NZ TV revenue.

Its not just about a second NZ team. NRL will soon need an extra 100 players. NZ is a great source but only if more kids are playing the game, many more. How will a second NZ club impact school RL if there is no support for schools to take up RL?
At the moment its virtually none of them playing it.

You spend an extra 20 million pa on nz schools and juniors what will happen

A) most will go to super rugby since there is only one nz nrl team and most don’t want to move to Australia

B) you will just get kids who play union also playing league

It’s not going to grow the game

The priority is a second nz nrl team and maybe a third with an incremental increase in funding to the nzrl

Your comment that their funding should replicate the qrl or nswrl is just nuts

And the arl has done loads for the nzrl stop making out it hasn’t

Spending money on grassroots footy, isn't going to grow the game?

Are you f**ked in the head?
