so when they say streams do they mean their version of Kayo?
Sky has 3 formats
1.Regular sky box pretty much exactly the same as its foxtel equivalent
2. Sky Now- streaming service that either comes complimentary with sky box or can be subscribed individually seperate to a sky box- closest to kayo
3. Sky open (formerly Prime tv) FTA channel, looking at this weekends schedule they are showing 2 NRL games this week (1 Fri/1 Sat)

Ratings wise FTA/Pay tv has the potential to over estimate viewers as it assumes the whole household is watching.
Streaming has the potential to under estimate viewers as it’s is done on unique streams- doesn’t account for say casting a device to a tv and multiple people watching

This is how nrl got 13.7 million viewers last year
Thats not really addressing the part of your article I was quoting…
Don’t think anyone is downplaying the fantastic support the Warriors are getting.
Funnily enough extrapolate that figure across the season and it’s at that 13mil figure- Likely a larger audience than normal being a much hyped Vegas opener but promising signs nonetheless

Im the only one that’s worked out nrl is number one in terms of tv ratings

And that’s a counter to the many Aussie trolls and maybe one nz one lol who have said sky nz will be cutting the tv deal because spark no longer exist

Happy to be proven wrong but the ratings for league would suggest the opposite

And also show how valuable nz2 will be for sky nz and also for Aussie tv networks that get that extra content for free

8k per game

Looking at nz 13.7 million is the total

If we take off pacific cup, origin, finals and all stars then you would think the total for nrl is around ten million pa

This is around 420k on average per week which the warriors would be the bulk of it

At a guess you would think warriors would average 200 to 250k on pay tv and 500 to 600k when shown on free to air which are very good numbers

Nz 2 should add at least 7 to 8 million more viewers to the total

Sky nz would be creaming their pants for that

trollity troll troll
How hard is it mate?
Admit that RL is doing great in NZ ...
Admit that Vegas turned out to be great for the game..
That Perth isn't perfect for a team and has incredible challenges..

Trolling is continuing to flag a false narrative despite significant evidence to the contrary in order to invoke a response..

Is it really Trolling if everything is correct?

RL is doing great in NZ, and Christchurch should be team 20.
Vegas, as a way of generating interest in the season start has been very successful in ist first 2 years

The ARLC and NRL clubs seems to think there is value in Perth so what you or I think of the 6k-20k current FTA audience (100k+ for origin and GF) is neither here nor there. And nothing is perfect, but Perth offers the best opportunity the NRL has to grow the game across Australia. The fact that RL is the only professional sport without a club in australia's 4th biggest city is just embarrassing. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

Raising perth tv audiences just to get a bite in a NZ2 thread is trolling, and pretty lame trolling at that.

Christchurch absolutely deserves Team 20, but pretending Perth isn’t a priority is just blinders on. The NRL isn’t looking at FTA numbers in isolation—they see long-term market potential, junior pathways, and corporate backing. Perth fills a glaring gap in national coverage, adds a new timeslot for broadcasters, and expands RL's footprint in a way no other Australian city can.

If anything’s ‘embarrassing,’ it’s ignoring the fact that the NRL wants to be a truly national comp, not just an East Coast one. NZ2 and Perth can both happen, this isn’t a zero-sum game.

PNG
Melbourne
Auckland

None are on the east coat

Perth will have minimal juniors and weak tv ratings

The whole “Perth has no juniors and weak TV ratings” argument is just lazy mate. By that logic, Melbourne should’ve never worked, yet the Storm built a junior system from scratch and now dominate. Perth has the time zone plus, corporate $$$ backing, and a growing rugby league presence. It’s a long-term investment, not just a short-term TV ratings grab.

And as for “not every team is on the east coast”—sure, PNG, Melbourne, and Auckland exist. Congrats, you found three exceptions in a comp where 14 out of 17 teams are east-coast-based. That’s exactly why the NRL wants to balance the national footprint with a Perth team. You can’t call it a national league while ignoring the country’s fourth-biggest city. Simple as that, deal with matey
