I'll bite since Te Kaha is no longer here.

You're rewriting history, at that time the thread started player numbers were much lower than they are now and league had come of an historically low period of participation numbers (and 10 years of terrible Warriors performances). At that time there were less league players in the country than there were 13-17 year old male rugby players.

Thankfully the Warriors hype train has translated into increased participation numbers, but pretending things were rosy when this thread first started is "talking shit".
It was stated player numbers were falling

Total bs

Everything that was said was wrong

The thread started in late 2022, this article from Oct 2022, which was likely posted by Te Kaha at the time (or I might have posted it) highlights the falling playing numbers in that period:

Sport New Zealand statistics show playing numbers in rugby league have declined faster than any sport in the country's biggest city during the past 10 years.

male numbers are down by almost 2000 players, or 23 per cent.

So no gaslighting, no "talking shit", just how things were at the time.

Quoting playing numbers around covid is duplicitous

As funny as this is to revisit this it’s done

You’ve provided a lot of commentary about the warriors and league in nz which I’ve learned from

If you read the article they specifically mention the trend was pre-covid. and the ARL themselves weren't using it as an excuse.

Yes it is done, things have improved markedly since then, I'm only posting it because your cronies have made erroneous claims about posts from that time.

The thread was started around the same time as the article.
The article is based on backwards looking data- nobody ever refuted that- ever. The only thing that was argued in relation to that article was the " startling decline of 23%" was Covid inclusive.
Our entire premises for an uptick that could be tracked back to the start of this thread or there abouts was the lifting of Covid restrictions and the Warriors returning to NZ.

I and WB have always been clear about the current trajectory of the sport in NZ , not a backwards looking data set that includes Covid and the 1 NRL team NZ had residing in Redcliffe.

Gaslighting bs !

Honesty when this thread started I did beleive chch would see league take over

Cause of him I don’t now and realise how much work is required

He also made me realise how crap the warriors are as a club off the field

They now get 17.5 million dollars (v sc 12.5 million) so close to 20 million kiwi that money should be able to support lots of off field development

They rank last in commercial revenue in the nrl. Less than Cronulla even.

I kinda think Webster is there to develop the pathways like Penrith and we are starting to see that now

A second nz side that’s set up properly and focused on juniors and pathways from day one will blow the warriors off the park imo

Spending money to develop kids that will always pick the broncos if they are good is just one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen

They should be focusing on kiwi kids telling them they can stay at home and be close to family and still have a career in league

Yeah ..Te Kaha was one of the worst Union trolls in my 20 year here …actually made him a mod at some stage which was a bit of a joke … he would be mortified with how things are going now ..no wonder he is nowhere to be seen these days
I was wondering what happened to the old boofhead. I thought he may have caught the covaids or something.

But we all told you that it was the COVID effect and we all told you that it would rebound. It's the very premise of this thread

At the time the report showed a 10 year decline pattern (2103>) so it wasnt 'just' the covid effect. Good to see it has reversed and the game is now growing over there for the first time in a long time.

The head of Auckland lead expressly said it was a trend dating back before Covid as much as you and Tito want to make it all about Covid.

Tito is still claiming it's just a Covid effect just two posts above. Crazy that Covid stated in 2012 in NZ.

I and WB have always been clear about the current trajectory of the sport in NZ , not a backwards looking data set that includes Covid and the 1 NRL team NZ had residing in Redcliffe.
Then why are you inserting yourself into a discussion about what a poster said in 2022 and claiming it is gaslighting? The article is just factual of what the state of league was at that time.

I don't even agree with Te Kaha on a lot of things, especially not his claims about basketball in NZ, but he's not here to defend himself from erroneous claims about his posts from 3 years ago. As I noted to Wb this is the only reason we're even discussing this now.

Yeah, my biggest worry about the Logan enterprise is that they'll just develop kids for other Aussie teams, meanwhile the kids from the regions in NZ will all wind up in Oz too due to Warriors neglect and the absence of NZ2.

We've finally got some good young players coming through, especially at second row, and then we go and buy an English second rower. As much as Cam George touts the Warriors as being a NZ focused team now we're almost dominated by Oz halves especially with TMM not being contracted next year.

Also wainuiomata over the hill in the hurt has a decent league history too. Otherwise you can maybe look at Kapiti/Horowhenua way
Could be a case where splitting games might be a go

Hold most games for the Coastal side in Porirua, with a game at Otaki or Levin (VERY accessible via the State Highway 1 now (Transmission Gully/Coastal expressway)

Hold most games for the Valley side in Lower Hutt (Hutt Rec or Fraser Park), with the odd game in Wainuiomata.

I hesitate to suggest games at Sky Stadium, because it's a pricey proposition (the Wellington Lions NPC rugby union team are moving games away from there!)... BUT if such a competition takes off, it could make sense to hold a derby match there.
