New Zealand 2 will deal a massive blow to NZ rugby

Nrl should just focus on nz png tonga Samoa and Fiji for the next 20 years
id throw in New Caledonia, Solomon islands and Vanuatu as it’s in the NRL’s backyard.

if the NRL was to look towards Europe and invest in Europe I would suggest they(NRL) invest in France and not super league.
I don’t think two nz nrl sides is enough if we want to really go at union properly
realistically the best New Zealand can look for and expect is 2 teams for the foreseeable future and this should be the warriors based in Auckland and NZ2 based in Christchurch going by the name the South Island……..
Super league will sort themselves out they aren’t far off it now
things are looking a little better but I think the game in the UK is still lurching from one crisis to the next a little too often for my liking.

I get laughed at for suggesting Cardiff or Dublin but they're all realistic expension possibilities in the future. So long as we have a stable financial base.
The NRL are on very sound financial footing operating at massive surplus! So long as we continue to expand within our means, sky is the limit! Perth is a little risky but should become self sustainable and PNG has been given the sound finances. NZ is the next easy picking.. FIJI with government funding could be on the cards too.

If the NRL got involved in SL, got the finances in order with some quality control through consolidation. They could grow the financial base and expand it ! Into big new markets!
Spoiler alert.. not Leigh lol
Was tried in Wales before with the Celtic Crusaders but never took off for some reason

Can’t see Tonga or Samoa ever having an NRL team they’re just too small, even Fiji is a push with the poverty in that country relative to the smallish population. Sure they all produce fantastic players but if you ever visit those countries it’s clear as day how much of a challenge it would be. PNG will be the test/Blueprint for how Fiji could look one day

Fiji I can if they go to 24 teams

Same as Wellington after Christchurch

Way way down the track though

Nothing to say these countries can’t support junior pathways teams or a NSW/Queensland cup side.

. nrl has abdicated responsibility to clubs which is great if you are lucky enough to have a club in your area, especially if it’s got pokies, otherwise there is very little jnr development happening.

Hang on…. Weren’t you just arguing that Richo and the Wests Tigers need to be more concerned with making a profit than spending money on junior pathways? Gotta keep all those club profits in house ….so maybe they can be used to buy more pokies,,,?

That's right, Tonga,Samoa,FIJI should all have a NSW cup side . The NRL will need to fund it though.
100% the NRL needs to fund it as they are in fact the only people who can fund it.

The NRL should see and use the grassroots and pathways development in the pacific as a lose leader i.e. sacrifice profit over development of RL athletes who will not only potentially play in the NRL but star in it and light up the competition getting more eyeballs watching on tv and in the stands and talking about it on social media etc.

Really wonder how much good kiwi talent is missing out because the game doesn’t spend enough in nz and what Christchurch would find as an nrl side

Those rags to riches stories are a bit overdone. Most sporting talents are identified fairly young in NZ regardless of the sport. He seems to be a late developer more than anything else.

Agree that the game doesn't spend enough in NZ though. :)
