Look at the numbers on the back of the players, the opening ones are league as is the last one.I thought that was a union comp judging by op comments
Nrl rated 12 million in nz last year
Doubt super rugby or all blacks combined did that
Dazn may see value in having all the worldwide tv rights for league or maybe it’s bs
Even if sky have no competitor the prospect of more high rating content should be worth something
And despite generating 12 million ratings the nrl tv deal is still half what super rugby got
And the Christchurch nrl team also has value for Aussie network via the extra game each week
Dazn did take a look at the union in nz. Maybe they thought 90 million was too much.
I know you like to do cumulative numbers but league doesn't "rate" higher.
12m is roughly around 400-480k viewers a week and the majority of that is the Warriors. And the majority of the Warriors audience is crossover audience with rugby.
The ABs v Boks match had 1.3m viewers and apparently the first Bledisloe had more. On any given weekend during Super rugby the top Super match outrates the Warriors, and on weekends with two local derbies there's likely two that outrate the Warriors.
The Christchurch team does not exist. There's no point us discussing it like it exists when it doesn't. Sky wont be signing a 10 year deal which might include a Chch team in the future. They'll sign a deal for what is available now.
