You know sh*t strong_latte, but what do you expect a Roosters fan to know about passion and pride, they only care about performance.

not to mention loyalty either die hard, where were these loud mouth roosters fans 10 yrs ago, its only when they started buying teams their pride surfaced

It's all relative really... ask a pommy premier league fan and he'll tell you there's no pride in rugby league compared to soccer fans in England (or soccer anywhere in Europe and South America for that matter). But personally thats what I love about rugby league, I love the stuff, but my life doesn't revolve souly around just the roosters.

If you knew anything about me you would know I'm actually a member of the South Sydney RLFC. So you can imagine Im really pissed off about the damn Bunnies being back.

Gee just because I live in Brisbane doesn't mean I'm a Broncos fan. (Admittedly I do follow the Broncos though, them being the sole representative of RL in the SEQLD) You f***ing idiot. It is pretty funny how you just assume that Im a Broncos fan and a Super League groupie.

But one thing is undeniable, the Broncos sh*t all over the Roosters in the passion and pride stakes.

8) 8) 8)

Well i owe you an apology then. Sorry man.

One of my greatest dreams is to see Souths vs Easts in the 2007 or 8 GF ... both clubs will be 100 then and could you imagine the size of the crowd ? They'd be swinging from the rafters ;-)

But to say Brisbane has more passion than Easts then im sorry, i dont apologize for calling you a dipshit. No way you could possibly be serious, could you ?

thats a fair and valid point, i do think some premier league fans do take it just a little too far :)
ur right it is nice to step away for a few months a yr, of course we're here chatting on a site that has the slogan "there is no off season" so that doesnt bode well for us :)

But you see my point... I'm not going to go out and shoot Justin Hodges and Chris Walker for costing us the grand final (although at the time I felt like it   ) like that nutter in columbia did with that poor goaly... :(

I have a question what if the player is a different nationality like italian, scottich or whatever and they were born overseas and have never played junior footy here, are they still allowed to play SOO?

i dont believe so. Its supposed to go off the junior clubs you played for after you turned 16...i think its 16 anyway, anyone care to elaborate...

I appreciate your honesty. Souths being a power would invigorate Sydney rugby league. MASSIVE crowds at Souths v Easts and Souths v Dragons as well as against Wests and Parramatta. It would just be great. I'm all for foundation clubs and tradition. It would effectively snap the legs off the Waratahs and Swans. :p

Was I being serious about the Broncos or was I just trying to ruffle feathers? Maybe a bit of both...

Honestly I was just sickened by the idea raised by strong_latte about Kiwis playing in Blue or Maroon. *puke*

The mould was broken with adrian lam, no one complained then, is that because he played for the kumuls?
As far as i see it, if lam can play origin, then any player of other ethnicity thats grown up or played junior footy in either state can as well!

Having Kiwis playing SOO deletes the purpose of pride and passion involved in it. What makes SOO so good is that it is State V State and you are watching 2 huge rivals go at it head it at a very high intense game. It is huge for this reason, and if people from other countries want to come in and spoil the party, It is no longer State against State, it is a cheap version of International RL.

IMO, there should be no exceptions for some players to play SOO who are from different countries. The sooner the ARL enforce this rule, the easier it is in the long run.

The only reason I've suggested it is because it would help the international competition out... When you think about it, kiwi stars like hunt and sonny bill have been playing in the comp since before they were 16 and alot of the time players like them will give up the chance to play for NZ because they want to be elligable for Origin... This basically kills NZ's international player base at the elite level and just makes the roos stronger, and the roos are strong enough.

It wont help international rugby league, it will put nails in its coffin!

QUEENSLAND V NEW SOUTH WALES!!!

It isnt rocket science!

If it isn't broken don't fix it!

JamesWebster's#1fan - I would rather lose with Aussie than win with Kiwis. Both at interstate and Origin level. ;-)

interesting question...

i think that it should not... as it could raise a lot of dramas as to selection etc.. eg picking aussie over kiwi and all that.

however, the arguement of it not broken dont fix it doesnt stand either.. eg if you have a row boat that aint broke, but you can upgrade the product to a speed boat, you would be stupid not to consider it... i think that it can improve the overall standard of the game even more!!

its quite annoying to see kiwis playing for aust just for origin when they can play for NZ and make international comp even better!

It's supposed to be a Rugby League strong hold! They shouldn't have anything close to the support they've been getting if qlders are really as passionate and loyal to qld rugby league as they keep trying to tell us.

what about the swans when they made the grand final and the 75,000 they got last year? bigger than any league club game. nsw is rl heartland but the same goes in qld. what were the lions crowds when they go shit? the same as the swans when they go shit. so dont say anything about lions making huge in roads in qld and we are not as passionate rl supporters when nsw was in exactly the same situation

Do you mean as a third team or for NSW and Qld?

If you mean as a third team, no, if for NSW and Qld, yes, provided they've played some sort of junior footy in NSW and Qld.

Agreed.

Look at the current rules.

It's not about where you were born, but where you started your junior football and what system you were brought up in (e.g Peter Sterling - born in Toowoomba, Qld, started footy in NSW and went on to play for the Blues. Mick Crocker in another example, but he plays for Qld).

So what's the difference if you were born in NZ?

There shouldn't be any if we're going on the current rules.

Blokes like K. Hunt who people feel the need to bag were born in NZ, but were developed in the Qld Rugby League system.

Same rule should apply for NZers providing they meet same criteria as the examples I mentioned above.

Allowing NZers (those who meet the criteria) to play Origin without having to make the commitment to play for Australia will help that part of our international scene.

As much as we all crave Origin, eventually our International game needs to be promoted as the 'true' pinnacle of the sport.

That will, of course, take time.

IMO.

Cheers.

What makes Origin special is not pride or passion – it’s COMPETITIVENESS!

Take that away and no-one will give a rats, just look at the interest NSW v QLD used to create pre Origin days (when it was one-way traffic to NSW).

Internationals have the potential to be as big as Origin if only they were consistently competitive.

Players who are eligible for either country, but are sucked in to playing for just one thanks to the lure of Origin doesn’t do much to enhance International competitiveness.

I’m not saying that a Karmicheal Hunt or Timana Tahu wouldn’t have wanted to play for Australia in the first place, but allowing these types the option, giving them the choice can only benefit League in general.
