Article from the Parra advertiser:

Article says The two main candidates for halfback are Tim Smith, a Junior product awaiting his NRL debut and PJ Marsh.

Brian Smith said about the halfs:

"We are happy with Tim Smith, and Pj Marsh obviously has been practising and doing a bit of stuff there since we began training."

We've also got young Blake Green, Whos another local Junior Kid, so we'll go with those three guys as our half back coverage."

" The other guys who's theere, more of a 5/8 but has played some halfback is Marcus Perenera a teenager from the Warriors."

Smith also said that Hindmarsh and Cayless will get a break till the end of January and that Hindmarsh may need minor surgery on his ankles but also said that he may not. Also Parra are chasing another Trial game as the Tigers one (as we all know now) is off

Watch for Perenara to be a force in a little while. Once he finds his feet. My mate in NZ talks him up so fricken much. I love the advertiser always has good things about the EELS.

Well it would being the local paper I doubt they'd do stories on the Cowboys.

Very interesting although after Leuluai didn't come it was expected the Marsh/Smith would fill the #7.

But reading between the lines to me it sounds like Tim Smith is leading in the battle.

well now that Smithy has seen the game, maybe Sideshow could get a gig.

Nothing new in the article tho.

Looks to be between Tim Smith and PJ initially, with Green in PL.

Thanks on the update Jake. I'm very happy for Tim Smith. The ball is definitely in his court. It is apparent that Brian Smith has watched Tim closely and made a similar conclusion to the majority in this forum and that is that Tim Smith is better then Michael Witt. It is also a big wrap on Blake Green (as he is a flegg player with no Premier League experience), to be virtually nominated as a backup half if something went wrong with PJ Marsh or Tim Smith.

Reading more into this I see 2 at best 3 players staying in the long term for the eels in the halves positions. The players I see battling for these positions assuming PJ Marsh is a hooker and not a half is Tim Smith, John Morris, Marcus Perenera and Blake Green. All 4 will definitely not stay in the long term.

In the nest few year I'd like to see Tim Smith and Blake Green as the half and 5/8 combination. I have a feeling we will see this in 2006. Blake Green is a hue talent he has the complete package from what I have seen so far.

I think you may be right Jake because I cannot see Morris staying beyond 2005. You may think I'm going mad but I would put Morris in the centres to partner Tahu and place Burt on the wing/bench.

Morris may or may not stay but I have a firm believing he may stay. He writes Smithy as his greatest influence so he might be staying for a while longer especially if he goes well at 5/8 or if we have a sucessful season.

The hype about Green is not fake as many think. He truely is an unnoticed star and when he reaches grade lookout.

Morris in the centres would be good and that could bring in Perenara to the 5/8 role pushing Burt back to prems (Iam saying this in the hope that Peterson has a good year).

6 Morris
7 Smith
9 Riddell
14 Marsh

That could win a premiership.

* We won't win the premiership next year. As much as I woulld like Parra to we won't. Tim Smith will still be learning the ropes and we lack another genuine 3/4 and for mine Moriss is not a 3/4. He does not have the speed or any attributes that would make him a 3/4. I'd rather see a youngster such as Kris Inu or Ben Smith who are specialist 3/4 get the gig and learn instead of these stop gap solutions.

I reckon Moriss will be offered a contract but reduced one as he is not worth the 200k.

The thing we have going for us next year is that there is No Pressure or expectations. We are starting from Scratch.

Uptheels I do agree with

6 Moriss
7 Smith
9 Riddell
14 PJ

Or swap Pj and Moriss around.

Reread. That could win. But who though Penrith could in 03, I didnt. Iam just stating possibilities. I would love for Smith to take the other spot but he has a lot of work to be done to his game but I think we will see Burt there.

i like that, i prefer PJ at Hooker and not in the halves, and once riddell comes off for a break PeeJ will be able to run the tired forwards ragged
