Parra needs to develop long term stability at halfback, hooker and fullback. These guys touch the ball the most during the game. We are on a dead set winner with Riddell/Marsh and Mckinnon. Hopefully Smith can be that long term halfback we have been looking for.

Also i don't believe that PJ will be spending the rest of his career in the parra #14. He could also be a realistic option at 5/8.

Good story in this weeks Parramatta Advertiser.

When talking about missing out on the kiwi half smith says something along the lines of 'we're happy with Tim Smith, and we have PJ Marsh who can slot in there as well'....he then mentions Blake Green as well.

He then goes on and says 'we have another guy in the mix, but he is more of a 5/8. Thats Marcus Perenara'.

Those arent the exact quotes cos I dont have it with me, but pretty close to mark.

Thanks on the update Jake. I'm very happy for Tim Smith. The ball is definitely in his court. It is apparent that Brian Smith has watched Tim closely and made a similar conclusion to the majority in this forum and that is that Tim Smith is better then Michael Witt. It is also a big wrap on Blake Green (as he is a flegg player with no Premier League experience), to be virtually nominated as a backup half if something went wrong with PJ Marsh or Tim Smith.

Reading more into this I see 2 at best 3 players staying in the long term for the eels in the halves positions. The players I see battling for these positions assuming PJ Marsh is a hooker and not a half is Tim Smith, John Morris, Marcus Perenera and Blake Green. All 4 will definitely not stay in the long term.

I've nevr seen Smith play.

But I HAVE seen both Witt and Smith train. And there is a MASSIVE difference.

Witt was a little reserved - he did wha he was told and that's about it.

Tim Smith on the other hand, is talkative and somewhat arrogant. "I told you I wanted you there - why weren't you?" He told that to Burt once at training (or so I was informed; I was unable to go to the session).

To me, for a 19 year old Junior to be training with our full time squad and yelling like that to a senior player is veru encouraging.

Personally, I'd rather see him at lock.

Yup, wouldn't surprise me if Smith is thinking of Mateo more as a lock the 5/8

Im glad that Tim Smith is getting a full off season with the top grade as 1st grade will be a million times faster than anything he has ever played before. If you watch Tim Smith closely he leaves the forwards with no doubts as where he wants them to run. I don't expect miracles 1st up from him but I know he will be better than Witt 1st up.

I see Mateo more as a lock in the Jimmy Dymock mould, which means he'll probably also fit in at 5/8.

I'd play him off the bench. Riddell off, Morris to hooker mateo to 5/8.

The article is more about halfbacks not 5/8's.

But I still think we'll see

7. Marsh

Meaning a bench of
14. Mateo
15. Widders
16 Front Rower
17. Front Rower

I know that BS is talking Tim Smith, but I still think we'll see PJ there.

Anyway, much better choices this year than last!

Problem with that is ....Who is replacing Riddell?

PJ is the Ultimate Hooker and when he comes off the bench he will be even more devestating.

It will be hard to narrow it down to two forwards on the bench, which is a good problem to have i guess. My starting props would be Cayless and Cannings and to fill the spots on the bench we have Stringer, Robinson, Vella, Peek,Cordoba, Moi Moi, Hauraki, Afamasaga, Muckert, Tsoulos, Lewis, Oake.

Morris to replace riddell.

I can see a scenario where Mateo goes on, Morris moves from 5/8 to hooker. I dont think that will mean he will be the permanent dummy half, because I think even if he is playing in the 7, we'll still see plenty of PJ there.

I just get the impression we've bought PJ as a half, not a hooker.

I guess the stategy would be to move Morris to hooker with Mateo playing at 5/8.

Its a good situation to be in. you can also add Henry Perenera too that as well.
