THe more I think about it the more I cannot see Smith playing unless he is starting halfback.

If that is the case then
If T.Smith plays

6. Morris
7. Smith
8. Cannings
9. Riddelll
10. Cayless
11. Hindmarsh
12. Morrison
13. Wagon

14. Marsh
15. Widders
16. Vella
17. Stringer
18. Robinson

If Smith deosn't play

6. Morris
7. Marsh
8. Cannings
9. Riddell
10. Cayless
11. Hindmarsh
12. Morrison
13. Wagon

14. Widders
15. Cannings
16. Vella
17. Robinson

Then when Riddell needs a rest
Morris to hooker
Wagon (or Petersen ;-) or Burt or McKinnon well you get the point) into 5/8
and the forwards get shifted as per requirments eg if it is Widders comming on he goes straight into lock but if it is Vella then Cayless back into the 2nd row with Morro to lock

I'm not sure Widders will get a bench spot. Considering we have potentially 3 80 minute back rowers in Hindy, Wags, & Moro. We might have more value in having another back that can play back rower when needed such as Luke Odwyer. Also considering Riddell can always play back row as well.

I think the bench will be
1. A Back
2. Front Rower
3. Front Rower
4. Hooker / Half / Back Rower

Smith will want someone on the bench to fill the role Webster and Dunley filled over the past couple of seasons, except a lot better I hope.

I think he will look to these players Henderson, Peranara & Russell. This is assuming that Marsh & Morris are the halves - if either of them are not in the top 13 they would become first option on thye bench.

I don't think Smith or Mateo will cut it in first grade this year.

I just can't believe how people don't have Chad Robinson in their forwards pack. He has been on the bench for one of the best teams in the competition for the last 3 years. I think if he is good enough for a first grade position at the Roosters then he is way good enough for a first grade spot at Parramatta.

3 80 minute back rowers doesnt make sence to me, what are we going to do? save interchanges so we can have 30 interchanges in the finals? Interchange 5/8's and Centres? Can we throw the flow of the team off anymore? Its just stupid, especially with the amount of back row talent at the club. We are going to lose players like Mateo, Afamasaga and Haurki. And for who? Players like Wagon.

Unlike thje last few years we now have a number of quality players competing for spots and it is much harder to decide who to leave out.

Every time I write down a top 17, I have to leave a player out who deserves to be there. The only problem area is in the centres

There are other options provided our Premier League side is performing.... he has to be really on his game - Smith's job, quite rightly, is on the line and sentiment and past performances won't mean much this year IMO.

Completely agree with you there.

I always thought that starting a smaller prop (like Cayless) with a alarger prop (Cannings) was the way to get tha balance. However, I now think that Robinson should start. Why?

Well, because he's a workaholic tackling machine. If he can get in there for the first 20 or so and tackle everything that moves, well then not only will Hindmarsh and Morrison be able to attack more, but he will wear down the oppostion pack, leaving them open for a Cannings/Tsoulos/Sttringer etc. steamrolling.

Good point.

However, I am thinking more along the lines of him winning the Players' Player Award.

Obviously his teammates value his contributions, and as a coach you must consider that heavily.

I would move Nathan Cayless to the front row and have a backrow of Robinson, Hindmarsh and Morrison with Henry Perenara off the bench.

I was extremly impressed with Chad Robinson during his time at the Roosters, the one thing I liked about him was he had good footwork, Ali Lauitiiti was outstanding at the start of his career because not many people could dominate him in the tackle because he had a good shift/side step that didn't slow him down, Chad Robinson I thought showed shades of that in his time at the Chooks. Perenara likewise can create on the fringes off the bench.

What about these scenarios:
1
6. Morris
7. Tim Smith

14. PJ

Morris to hooker; Smith to 5/8 and PJ to half.

2
6. Morris
7. PJ

14. Mateo

Morris to hooker and Mateo to 5/8.

3
6. Morris
7. PJ

14. Henderson

Henderson to hooker

I like the idea of a fixed half / 5/8 combo they work much better.

One of the main reasons that i dont like having Cayless in the front row is just because he is such a skillful player. He was making much line breaks and offloads this season than previous seasons when he was playing in the front row.
