Good morning everyone from Cumbria. Both Whitehaven and Workington town have been on duty with a few friendly games before the real rugbystarts in april,Town played Haven in a friendly game at the recreation ground in Whitehaven and unfortunately lost that game 18 to 6.It was billed has a friendly, but i have never know a game between them two to ever be a friendly and this game did not disappoint the fans.It was played in terrible conditions and it was basically a mud bath with both sides dropping the ball and the frustrations set in,Alan Mcguiness a Town prop took a shot at Havens prop and he finished up in the dug out with ten stitches in his head. The ref missed it so Alan got away with that one.On a more serious note,Havens prop forward David(fats)Fatiolofa came off with a broken arm and will be a big miss for the Haven fans for at least three months.Towns next game was away to newly promoted Dewesbury and it was another disappointing display by Stokesy's troops, they held Dewes in the first half but in the second stanza they just faded against what was Dewes second string.Ged was not very complimentary towards his troops, and those players and friends who know Ged well will understand where i am coming from.Haven meanwhile played in a quickly arranged friendly game and it was billed has a testimonial game for a Barrow stalwart who in my opinion deserved his day.Haven lost that game by 18 to 14, but it was not a game where you could take any positives from as far as how they will both perform in their respective leagues.Yesterday Town travelled to another famous club Widnes for a friendly game,Town lost the game by36 to 18 which really was not a bad effort by Geds lads,Widnes are one of the top two teams who are favourites for a quick return to Super League next season and they certainly do have the personnel to get them there. On a more serious note,Towns player Ryan Campbell suffered a serious injury during the game,he was reported to have broken and dislocated his ankle and will require surgery to insert some pins.He is a smahing young man is Ryan, and all his team mates and his ex team mates from Haven have all wished him a speedy recovery.Get well soon Knocker.Haven prepared themselves for the game of the season against the mighty Wigan Warriors but were let down badly,Wigan had secured a Haven player and promised they would send up a first team squad for a friendly at Haven but what they sent was half of the u18s and u21s so you can imagine the disappointment in the Haven camp. But they won the game 30 to 0.Another kiwi stalwart in Aeron Lester has announced his retirement at the end of next season,Aeron and the other kiwi lads will be having a ten year testimonial at Haven for their magnificent contribution to not only Whitehaven rugby league club, but to Cumbria itself.Well done lads and thats from a Townie.so any young props out there that fancy a spell in Cumbria give Stokesy a ring as you never know.Always love to see the Kiwis play, and one day i will be out in NZ doing a bit of fly fishing.Enjoy your rugby everyone .
