Funny how he said B Smith was the best coach he played under as, considering he played under Hages for so long. LOL

Hopefully Bellemy puts him on to vs us in whatever round it is. HOWEVER I think he will purposely not play him to avoid the hype and the hate he will face playing us.

I don't care what he said for the Storm.

It's just that it's basically him contradicting himself.

He said, he wanted to be wanted, and because Smith didnt see him in plans for next year all he done was get to his 100th game and then leave right away because he couldnt play his best if he wasnt wanted.

NOW... Again so far the Storm have no intentions on keeping him next year, or they would have snapped him up for a couple of years.

And he says he will give 100% and is focused on this year and wants to help THEM win a premiership.

So basically.. why couldnt he do what he claims he will do there, here ?
Which just goes to show that we haven't been told the whole story. Obviously his problems with Smith and Newcastle ran deeper than their refusal to resign him. Would it have satisfied you more if he'd chosen to dump on the coach and the club when he left, instead?

'Oh, I wanted out of Newcastle because Brian Smith is the bastard son of an autistic baboon. No, no, it has nothing to do with anything else - I just can't stand being near the guy and I don't want anything to do with him.'

As I see it, he's just being professional by refusing to dump on the coach on the way out.

He said at a press conference he loved the red and blue jumper....
Hes had alot of time to prove it .instead he plays like sh*t week in and week out.
Then he has words with chief after last sundays game then comes home
crying to daddy and asks for a release then goes to melbourne and hopes
to win a priemershp with them.......he certainly showed us what the red and blue jumper
means to him..........good on ya clint your all class mate!!!

How about we just not mention Newton anymore. He is a waste of our time. Coach cranky has him now. He learnt his trade under supercoach cranky, Wayne Bennett. Maybe that is the key to being a great coach. Both Bellamy and Bennett fit that criteria nicely.

JM - I'd love to see a quote and source where Brian Smith said that "doesn't rate him and wants to see the back of him".

I never said Smith used those exact words, don't pretend I did.

The fact that Smith said Newton wasn't doing the job for them and they didn't offer him another contract is evidence.

Surely you can understand that Alex

Smith hasn't even publicly said that he wasn't going to offer him another contract! He has stated that they were going to see who they could sign first and then re-sign players. Newton was annoyed he wasn't a priority and jumped ship.

In the NRL on Fox interview Smith stated that there was a group of players(including Newton), that he thought needed to move on for the good of both the club and their careers.

Newton, Woolnogh and Perry were identified as players that he thought hadn't been doing the job and weren't a part of his plans for the future. He said words to the effect of "It's nothing against them as players, but I just think that they might need a change of scenery to reach their full potential".

I have to agree with JM on this one...

I may have been abit quick to judge Newton's motives for leaving in another thread. But that doesn't change the fact that certain members of the forward pack (namely Perry, Newton, and Woolnough) were selected by Smith as not playing to their potential. Call it laziness if you like. A change of scenery could change this, but I don't think it was Newton's entire fault for being put in the position he was. And it would be wrong to put the entire responsibility on him.
