Newton to Melbourne?

I know you can't read much into it at this stage but as the article suggests, Storm officials may be considering offering Newton a deal. It may just be a short term thing until the end of the season with the few injuries we've been getting lately. I know we have depth to cover those blokes but it never hurts to have more to choose from than less.

MELBOURNE officials are considering making a formal approach to representative forward Clint Newton after he left the Knights yesterday in a dramatic move predicted to be the start of an exodus from the club.

Newton, who played his 100th first-grade match for Newcastle in Sunday's record 71-6 loss to Brisbane, said his heart was no longer with the club and hinted at a falling-out with new coach Brian Smith after being granted a release from the rest of his contract.

Don't mind it as a short term thing, similar to what we did last year with Jeff Lima. He has really come on this year.

And then when he stars for the Storm for the rest of the season the excuse will be "We never wanted him anyway".

Great buy, Storm. Think we have another Ben Cross on our hands here.

Not reached his full potential at his previous club, but will do so here.

He walked out on the club that supported him thru his injuries and suspensions .... He isnt that spectacular as you guys make him out to be ... wait for the offloads that go to ground

Alot like Mick Crocker, eh?

Bellyache will turn him around - as he does with all players who come to play for us.

Unfortunately poor Danny is out for the rest of the season, I believe.

Big wraps on him as well from the coaching staff.

You'd be suprised Roopy - he reminds alot of people of a young Ryan Hoffman at the same age.
I watched him for 4 years - he had a good run or two in him as a junior - and he had a wonderful high and short kickoff similar to the one Joey was toying with in firstgrade before they banned the tee used for it.
Basically the ball goes miles high and swirls around for ages while only going 20 metres forward. It puts the cats amongst the pidgeons.

I'm a tad pissed off that we signed Newton as it leaves Ben Cross off contract and linked with the Bulldogs.

Damn shame. Cross deserves a place at Melbourne above any other blow ins like Newton!
