It was a very costly loss for Balmain - Luke Issaka was taken off in an ambulance with spinal injuries, I haven't heard anything but it looked serious. Heres hoping he is ok.
Jeff Lima was also carried off with what looked to be an ankle injury (could have been knee but I think ankle) - don't know how serious it is but he looked in a lot of pain and I wouldn't expect him back for a while.
It was a tough game, we blew several oppertunities that could have seen us win although being reduced to a two man bench didn't help. Bronson played very well as did greally and Azzi stood up and played very strongly, Fakahua played pretty well and frank samia continues to improve.
Hession was TERRIBLE and Jaime Small didn't get much game time - I don't know if he suffered an injury or what but the henson park surface was awful and with his previous history of ankle injuries its possible he agrevated something and so they decided to keep him off.
We've always got them in the last 20 of each half, but it looks like they're playing out their games much better. We've got our own big boys back so we'll handle Monah and Manoussso (good to see him back at this level), but if we're missing Kerr and Beutts and possibly Liam I fear Cokey will have too much smarts and get the Jets up.
I'll be deathriding Prince to miss out on QLD all day. ;-)
It was an old fashioned tough game. Poor old Henson certainly needs some water, wish the council would sink a bore to do it. It has soccer on it in summer hence the large patches in front of the goal posts and centre plus Easts junior rep games and us so it hardly gets a rest.
Yo only play on it once a year we are here all the time. Lucky there is plenty of sand there to bury the maggies this week.
Henson was great yesterday, good to see so many people there, however not so good that we got the ref.... Hometown hero was at it again However Newtown's defence was great in the second half, especially considering the tries we scored in the first half. The pitch was disgraceful, although i would imagine much money goes into its upkeep so what can be expected?
Anyway, i was back to the old days, i wish every game Balmain played was in that environment (except for the pitch!).
Yappy, just in front of the scoreboard is the place to be, closest to the beer and the bbq ;-)
the ground was good for cinematics but it appears lima's injury was directly related to the poor surface, He seemed to fall awkwardly in the tackle. I thought the tigers played well, especially in the forwards, but the halves really let the side down. Henderson and branigan had very little organisation out there and as such we squandered many good opportunities in the second half. Branigan has talent but I think the major concern for him is consistency. We dominated position in the second half but did not convert once.
Nick Graham also had a terrible match. I think the side's direction broke down everytime he got involved. He can be a class player (especially at first division level) but I think he isn't very interested in applying himself.
I also think dfeense outwide is a serious concern. Fakahua really seemed to struggle on the line (or was that samia's wing?) and all newtown's tries were scored down his side.
Bronson had a good match but he lacked support for the work he was doing. One thing greally could improve is learning to follow players like Bronson, as bronson often had the arms free but did not have support. That is one thing class players like moodie and Hodgson have always been good at and greally has the pace to be a devastating support player.
The problem with Henson isn't soccer so much. They only stuff up the bit near their goal posts. The ground at the beginning of the year (end of soccer) looks great.
It's all the RL there. Newtown play there, sometimes UTS do, the Roosters Junior reps and Christian Bros Lewisham play RL there too.
Overuse and a lack of Council works really stuff up Henson.

Monah Elahamed was sent off at the end. I'd say he'll watch the Wests game from the stand.
Our forwards were in fine form. Balmain certainly got bashed around. Troy Barnes was impressive for us in defence.
The strategy of "run at Hession and Fakahua" certainly worked. You blokes can keep them
Pretty dissapointed by this result really, its been a horrendous weekend for the club as a whole. Marshall, O'Neill, Covell, Sattler??, Issaka , Lima.....absolutely shocking, injury wise! I really hope Issaka's injury isnt too bad, hopefully its just a case of goign through the usual procautions , nothing more?
Good to see Bronson play well, he'll be a real chance next week for the top grade now.
Yappy. I think I read somewhere that Tommy Raudonikis coaches Newtown. Is that correct (Living in New Zealand, we don't get to see or read that much about Premier Division).
Tommy is a regular at henson when down fron Brisbane.
Lima's injury was not the pitch but rather the tackle as when Wade LeStrange grabbed him he also used his legs to bring him down and got caught in an awkward position.
I have to admit that those tackles like the one Lima was injured in should be outlawed from the game. I've seen a heap of injuries over the years directly linked to that sort of tackle.
