If Clarke retired today, Im afraid they would give the captaincy to Watson

If Clarke retires in, say, after a couple more Aussie summers. Then provided he becomes a cleanskin in that time, could well be out of Warner or Smith. Though Smith is the logical choice for now

I reckon Watson will retire before Clark, although he may get a second wind at batting at 6, because its easier, I just don't see his body holding up.

Haddin surely, if they didn't want to go to Smith immediately (although Haddin likely to retire soon too I guess)

haddin has said the WC will be the end of him.

And even if it wasnt its not like Australia to appoint a short term captain.

there's been some media talk that Clarke will retire sooner than we think.

all depends on his back I reckon.

If Clarke were to go really soon, I think it'd be Watson with Smith as VC.

But if Clarke hangs around for another 3 or so years, Smith.

Could even be a bloke yet to play.

They have been grooming Smith for sure.

Captained State, BBL team, was vice captain of an Australia A tour.

Smith will be ready before Clarke gives it away I reckon. I think Clarke would be more inclined to retire if he can get Aus. to number 1 in the not too distant future rather than retiring because of his back.

I think Clarke will play on until the next ashes series over here so still 4 more years yet. Don't think we'll have a ponting scenario with Clarke where he loses the captaincy and still plays. By then I'd say smith will 100% be ready, as long as we don't drop him if he has a couple of poor tests
