The Broncs problems have not revolved around its attack, even with Reynold missing. Its been how much its defence has regressed. They have been missing Capewell and Flegler.

Not to mention herbie on the edge, having no carrigan either makes defence non existent, the dragons fowards just steamrolled them, until the ref gave the bronx the good 'ol evenerupper

Its the way they have been losing.

Other teams have been decimated by Origin and managed to keep a half descent winning record.

Broncos have just turned to s#it.

Its not just 6 of their next 7 to make finals, its then add 4 more finals games in a row to win the comp. They are going to fall well short of expectation.

Herbie/Flegler were crucial to their yardage. Both were top ten metres gained in the 2024 NRL season.

Add in the loss of their linchpin in Reynolds and you'll have some issues.

Adam O’Brien should be a favourite for the sack, but the Knights extended his contract last season on the back of their winning run to the 2023 finals. They could’ve had him on a performance contract this season.

You reckon? He's had the job 4 seasons and has made the finals 3 times, not including this season. Won't make it this year but that's still 3/5 which is a winning record.

Isn't like he's got a team of superstars either, it's Ponga, a few good players that are many levels below Ponga and some older ex rep players, I think he's above expectations right now tbh.

He was on the verge of being sacked last year until their run to finals saved him. They’ve really underperformed this year.
Their squad is solid but they‘re playing really poorly, and now they‘re talking again about signing more new players.

Not at all defending AOB because I want him gone, but while we have some decent players, our spine outside of Ponga who has been out for most of the season is probably bottom 2 (I actually can’t think of a spine worse than ours if you take out Ponga who’s been injured). Hastings and Brailey were once decent enough players but they’ve just fallen apart physically this year after one too many leg injuries.

The Broncos defensive structure and lack of defensive grit is a massive issue for them.

As others have said, Capewell and Flegler are underrated in terms of defensive effort. You need players that shift, contact and reduce an attacking teams time on the ball. They were two of their best at wrapping up the ball, reducing metres and line coverage.

If you look at their last few games, their outside backs are being left isolated. This defensive structure is dictated by the line speed of the middles and backrowers. If the back rower is off, then centre and wing have to make defensive decisions which often isolates them. A centre won't rush in if the edge back rower is up and reducing the attack speed. Edge defence is only as good as the middle third.

Adding to that, fitness lacking and they don't have the same mental strength they had in the last two seasons. Look at teams like Penrith, Easts and Melbourne. They can be behind on the scoreboard and they are rarely written off. They stick to their structure when needed but they adapt extremely well to where they are leaking points and metres. The Broncos don't adjust at all. Walters just firms up a spot by moving his edge in and out of weak areas. You can do that if you have to shut down a teams strong side but you shouldn't do it if it weakens the middle too much. Find a more suitable player or fix the bench rotation.

AOB is close surely. Sunday might seal it.

Their spine is a complete mess and forcing out Hastings isn't making things look any better. They look rudderless in 2024 and 2025 looks even worse.

Might as well recall Ryan Stig or Brock Lamb into the team.

Peter Sullivan is doing a clean out so he probably gets a chance with a new roster

Nah he’s safe. Wests are too tight to pay him out.

Bring back Stig! Manly would sign him for his homophobic views.
