None of these are new but I've been on my TV series watching arc over the last couple of years, watching some shows I always saw talked about and never got around to

Deadwood - so good, so quotable, truly a great show - I rate it higher than boardwalk empire, peaky blinders etc as far as period dramas go. It is a shame though like many other great shows, the ending is a bit abrupt due to real world influences.

Succession - I went in a bit skeptical, primarily because I had read some outlandish plaudits about how it was the best show ever made (it's not), but it was very good I can't deny it that. Any fan of epic dramas should give it a go.

Peaky Blinders - lots of fun, the formula gets a bit tiring by the end but it's still a worthwhile watch. some great characters and the period its set in is genuinely interesting.

Oz - what a classic. some completely nonsensical storytelling in later seasons aside, you can see how it paved the way for even better HBO dramas. if you want to see where it all began, watch this.

Ozark - i gave up on this after one season. It just didn't hook me, I was already tired of some the characters. I might give it another go at some point but doubtful. imo a large step down in quality from any of the above shows.

Do we need to have watched it first? I was going to jump straight into The Boys.
It's not strictly necessary, but good to do so to fill in a few references and appearances.

In order;
The Boys seasons 1 - 3.
Gen V season 1.
The Boys season 4.
Gen V season 2.
The Boys season 5.

I liked Ozark better than Succession. I'm not a Succession-stan though, thought it was overrated (but still watchable). The supposed best episode ever of it I found fairly ho hum. Due to losing access to Binge while watching the final season I still haven't finished it.

I think the Ozark characters get less annoying as it goes on, kind of a reverse of Peaky Blinders. They both have stuff in the final seasons that I found stupid and didn't match with what the shows had established early on.

Have you seen the Deadwood movie?

Yeah, I'm complete up to The Boys S4. Actually forgot about Gen V S2. Hmmm, I guess I should watch it first ...

Yeah, fair. I call Succession good almost reluctantly, lol.

I saw the Deadwood movie and thought it was pretty good but anything set years after doesn't have the same feel the same to me. Still a good addition.

👍

Yeah, I wasn't saying Succession was bad or anything, but definitely overrated (to me).

I forgot to mention I'm currently watching Mad Men - up to the Season 3 finale. So far its on track to be one of my favourite shows of all time. It's not easy creating a gripping drama where there is no real criminal element. Mad Men does it so well. Roger Sterling has become one of my favourite TV characters already.

Yellowstone - Finished the show recently. My god what a great story. The second half of the last season is frustrating for an obvious reason to those that watch it, but unavoidable. Highly recommend.

Paradise - Season 1 was pretty good. It's a slow build so some patience is needed, but it's a good mystery that isn't in your face action.

Landman. Great show. Tyler Sheridan just seems to have a talent for good storytelling and picks the right cast for the show. Billy Bob Thorton is hilarious in moments but also very commanding in the serious scenes.

Each to their own (and I mean that sincerely, I watch some crap stuff that makes me happy), but Sheridan's shows are unmitigated crap.

I couldn't get through S1 of Yellowstone and Landman might be the dumbest show I've ever seen. After watching episodes from that show I'm convinced that Sheridan has never met an actual woman. The worst thing about that show is how it was based on a really good podcast yet Sheridan threw out what made the podcast so good to make to make his usual right wing porn.

Tulsa King is watchable, I think that's due to Sly and the fact Sheridan has less of an active role in it, although after S1 it took a more serious tone which I didn't enjoy as much.

I liked Paradise though. Is S2 out?

Oh Sheridan is no doubt a MAGA cuck. But his shows seem to have very on point casting and the interplay between characters are excellent in my opinion.

Landman does have a similar direction that Ozark and Breaking Bad went through, so it's somewhat predictable. But again, Billy Bob Thorton, Demi Moore (excellent acting in season 2) and Ali Larter are very entertaining to watch.

Paradise season 2 is out on Disney. It's eh. I've watched 6 of the 8 episodes and I honestly think they could have condensed those 6 episodes into 2. They spend alot of time doing character development which is taking away from the main story. It hasn't lived up to season 1 but I think that's because the mystery is out after season 1.

Agree on Yellowstone, but quite like Landman. Probably because of Billy

@PJ @Last Week Yeah Billy Bob is always watchable, but not enough to put up with the scripts and the other female characters. The daughter is awful, the lawyer is either brilliant or as thick as two short planks (often in the same scene) and the dipshit sons girlfriend is hot but a terribly written character.

The Podcast is called Boomtown if you guys are interested in what he loosely based the show on.

I'll check out S2 of Paradise soon.
