Regional Victoria has about 1.5 million but it's not highly concentrated. Geelong is growing rapidly though.

That said all of those areas are effectively serviced by the Melbourne fumble clubs already, just like how NRL fans in regional NSW/QLD support a lot of Sydney/Brisbane NRL clubs. That said Newcastle, Illawarra and North Queensland can support teams of their own. I'd add the Sunshine Coast to that list soon.
Ballarat and Bendigo are large regional bases which are growing, Tassie is full of Victorians who can’t swim and is also a growing base, the NRL made an error not going to Tassie 10 years ago.

I doubt the AFL will put teams in Ballarat or Bendigo. Even at best growth rates they'll still be under 150k by the 2040s. They also have lower growth rates. Ballarat is 1.15% but places like Sunshine Coast in Queensland is 2.6%. Tasmania is only going to be 630k in 20 years for the whole island. For perspective, the Sunshine Coast is projected to overtake that by 2040.

They wont move there. Im surprised Bendigo doesnt see more AFL games, but QEII Oval is pretty shit. Should be something North look at instead of going to Tasmania.

10k juniors and few nrl players

Auskick numbers
No that was registered juniors and seniors playing the game .... not a 6 week forced school engagement.

A stable 10k playing group will regularly generate into the future NRL quality players with the right pathway systems.

The competition expanded rapidly and retracted just as rapidly on the removal of the Reds.

The Reds had began the process of creating the right pathway at the time but that doesn't create NRL quality players in 3 years.

Overall, you need:
1) A competitive junior club setup based on high registration numbers (doable based on history), a regional rep program (exists but coaches need development ) and a NRL pathway (non existant). That takes 3 years min.
2) Investment is necessary to bring the coaching standard up across all those areas. Another 3 years min.
3) You then have the right environment for the 12 to 18 years old to develop into NRL potential. Pulling a under developed 17 year old (physically and skill based) into the right environment isn't enough, they need the right continual exposure and ramp up from a young age.

That could end up a 10-12 year progression with 1 or 2 potential wins early.

Fair enough

my point is Perth red has been arguing the nrl alledgedly cutting funding to affiliated states was a major mistake when putting an nrl team in Perth and letting them set up their pathways is the best way to go long term

Pathways, it’s great having lots of kids playing but if there isn’t the systems to identify and develop the cream of them then few will go on to a professional career. Look no further than PNG as a perfect example of this.

with twiggys millions now going into jnr union you wilo see increasing amount of talent come out of WA in the union system over next few years. Talent that could well have been flowing into an nrl system instead if the game had its sht together.

It was, it meant the closure of the sg ball program. The only elite system we had for a pathway into nrl in WA. dumb dumb dumb.

we have 5 DO officers for whole of WA, Brisbane has over 100 AFL DO officers.

the nrl has slashed $45mill out of grassroots across Australia over the last two years,

Without an nrl team to play for useless

that 45 millions year is better spent on hotels

Best direct that at iamback, he started this particular derailment lol

Not really, WA has 4000 juniors. How much resources should go there?

They get more than Tas but the issues are the same, Can't get players without resources but with low numbers is hard to justify

All those States are the same in that regard, Money is better spent going East of Sydney/Brisbane not West or South
