Good luck getting close to the fumblers deal in any case - News Limited will make sure of it.

Just do what’s best for the game. I would argue for less teams not more at this point in time

If people think the current deal is unders wait until the actual good teams play leas games.

TV will love it

Then you have less games.

The theory seems to be a 20 team comp, 19 rounds is more games than we currently have in a 27 round comp.

Which is true until that would involve less Broncos, Souffs, Storm games etc.
This year we had 204 games. With a 20 team comp over 19 rounds we have 190. There are genuine advantages in player welfare, more condensed season, more origin unaffected rounds, and more opportunities for international football. But the home and away will be reduced.

With News trying to exit Foxtel, it's highly likely they aren't a factor anymore.

The players, fans and administrators all prefer this.

The TV channels will be the issue. And unfortunately the seem to hate International Footy.

Yep. Surely would make more money by separating the NRL & the Origin rights.

Get 7 & 10 bidding for the origin rights.
They threaten that every deal and it never happens. Ive seen estimates that origin is worth $30mill a year. if that’s in the ball
Park it means ch9 is only paying $85mill cash a year for 3 games a week finals and exclusive grand final. Seems undervalued?

What games do you think they are making money on? NRLW played at midday on a Sat certainly isn't

As a Cowboys fan, How do you think your club would like a home game v Broncs every 2nd year?

I think everyone agrees the season goes too long but not sure 19 rounds works.

International footy doesn't make money, that id why TV hates it

There’s a compromise somewhere in there to shorten season and still keep the valuable stuff. I’d say play everyone once (inc magic weekend) (19) then your rivals home and away (2) gives a 21 game season and means we don’t miss out on those big games being played twice. cuts 3 games out of the season. Get rid of byes. either origin/rep stand alone weekends mid season or a stronger rep season at end of year.

I think everyone agrees the current season is too long and having twenty clubs means it’ll be even more unfair in the draw In current format.

The 3 byes are the issue.

Get rid of them and the season can start later, No point playing tests while the ESL are going.

You need England to give TV value and currently the PNG halfback plays in ESL, The squads need to be strong

Come feb 2025 we will get AFL and NRL financial reports, lets see what they say....In 2025 we should go for a new deal.. Threaten Nine and Fox tel with going all in with Ten/Paramount + and big Tech, so sign a new and improved deal effective immediately.

What are you talking about , where Even Stevens for AFL and NRL media revenue,

This has always been dependent on intepretation of commentary, since theres vague reporting on the NRL total, and no one know what Fox paid separately for either code, or what the Telstra contribution was for the AFL.

as I pointed out last year, (2023 and 2024) which the NRL will provide proof in feb 2025 accounts.

The NRL hasnt separately accounting for its media rights revenue in the last 5 years, so that seems unlikely.

There are no absolutes.

I can't be bothered reading through all this.

But when is the new TV being done?

What figures are expected?
Negotiations were supposed to start soon but the delay in Perth has put things on hold

I would say next year talks will start once Perth and png have been finalised

The nrl will get around 550 million cash which is more than the afl gets around 530 million cash.

We get around 400 million cash now so a rise of 150 million pa which will be a decent bump

Salary cap will rise by around 2 to 3 million per club and the clubs themselves will get an additional 2 to 3 million each on top of it

So each club will be getting around 7 to 8 million over a salary cap of around 15 million

Future tv deals which will show a huge jump in ratings will be massive especially if they can get some decent money out of png which should be getting similar ratings to Sydney (but obviously worth less due to incomes)

A second nz side will see nrl ratings overtake super rugby and another huge growth market
