Look at the revenue these broadcasters make in PNG.

Being unwilling to come up with a figure at this time doesnt make every other link, article and report hogwash.

Good for you. Doesnt mean everyone else has to jump in with you.
Just back your opinions with a number like I did

DAZN also isnt involved at this point.

They will be when the next nrl deal is done

And they didn’t spend 1.5 billion to see that whittled down to basically zero by losing nrl

Past performance is never an accurate predictor of future performance

Obviously look at how channel seven is going now after overpaying for the afl

Not since 1995 has the nrl had more clubs than the afl. That content gap will be gone

Idealism isn’t accepting a rival sport deserves more money than you do that’s just stupidity.

And it’s not your job to keep being negative but here you are

And remember there’s significant upside from nz and maybe even a png tv deal which as ususal you have totally ignored
PNG get nrl now, how much are they paying for it?

just to give some comparative figures
png digital advertising spend $34mill US
australian digital advertising spend $15.6billion

gives you a sense of revenue in media difference between countries

He doesn't care about facts in this discussion.

There are benefits to what the 3 teams bring in. TV isn't one just yet

So how will seven afford the extra 50 million they are paying the afl. That will totally wipe out their profits.

And dazn isn’t broke

Some say they can't afford the next deal. The AFR being one.

Again DAZN will do what is good for the business.

Say they come in and make a bid. Lets say Pay TV they value at $350m.

They will make that bid and that bid only, It takes someone else to want it more and bid against it to raise the price.

They aren't going to come in and drop $600m on the rights unless they are forced too

I dunno why you keep saying 600 million from Dazn / Fox

350 from them
150 from nine
50 from sky nz

Is still a blockbuster deal

And for the millionth time Stan have said they will be bidding against them.

If the nrl didn’t have so much value for broadcasters then sure a slightly weaker advertising market might be the major factor

The Australian tv rights for nrl solely are hugely undervalued ignoring origin.

How much did sky nz pay for the arl tv rights before the warriors came in? (Zero)

Now we know Telstra own digicel and their ebit was something like 160 million usd and they have millions of subscribers who access content from their phones then why not ?

20 million pa isn’t out of the realms of possibility and growing over time as the club gets established

Of all those investments, it is Digicel’s operations in PNG that make the biggest Pacific contribution to the group’s overall fortunes.

In PNG, Digicel mobile has a remarkable 91% market share. Its extensive network entrenches that dominance. It has 945 mobile cell sites which provide network coverage of at least 2G standard to an estimated 85% of the PNG population. The network beams across an estimated 53% of PNG’s geography.

Digicel’s presence has driven a dramatic expansion in the availability of telecommunications for Papua New Guineans: mobile penetration rates lifted from just 2% in 2006 to 30% today.

“And since establishing itself in mobile, Digicel has expanded its PNG operations to include finance, corporate telecoms, information technology and pay television. It operates a TV channel and news service (TVWAN), a prominent daily news website (Loop PNG) and holds the broadcast rights to domestic and international telecasts of PNG’s national sport, rugby league.”

Digicel’s investment in PNG has been generating significant returns: in the year to March 2019, PNG operations brought in revenue of more than US$340 million and made a contribution to group earnings (EBITDA) of $160.5 million. PNG’s contribution was worth 16.7% of total EBITDA and was the largest from a single market within the group. Revenue and profitability increased even as the company lost a half million mobile subscribers, which it says was the result of government policies requiring the registration of SIM cards.

The PNG operations have been making an increased contribution to Digicel’s profits, offsetting losses elsewhere in the group’s operations.”

I thought png was a rugby league mad nation? Are you saying they currently have little interest in watching nrl as there is no png club?
I don’t know what the nz tv deal was pre warriors, do you?

It was zero

They got winfield cup games for free to develop the market

Now it’s worth 32 million pa

Pretty nuts you don’t think they can monetise the png market over time when Telstra are already making 350 million in revenue from it

The current png team is in qld cup whose going to pay for that

Got evidence of that?
I posted the quotes from the article above
Revenue from png 350 million usd
EBIT (measure of cash flow) 160 million usd

Who would’ve thought a market as big as 17 million would actually be one you can make a lot of money from especially if you are the dominant sport of said nation
