So if there is a bidding war for the NRL rights and Foxtel pay significant overs, will AFL fans be allowed to complain that their subscription cost went up because Dazn overpaid for the NRL rights, or are NRL fans only allowed to complain?
And if Foxtel lose NRL rights, combined with speculation that Ch7 may not be able to afford their side of the deal, maybe this:

"DAZN bought the rights to Ligue 1 — French football’s premier league — in August. A month later, viewers were abandoning the platform and illegally streaming matches because of the price. DAZN is renegotiating its contract."

Obviously have no fear of renegotiating rights, lose NRL, price goes up more because of the loss of more than half their subscribers and associated revenue.

The NRl deal was signed before the AFL one lol
Or are you claiming Vlandys signed an unders deal so AFL could get more money when they went to the table later?
I’m saying ever since Foxsports got afl they have always paid overs because they have never paid nrl what it’s worth

Stan is a nightmare for them

Seeing Foxsports lose 2 billion in value if they lose the nrl is going to be sweet

And if they do lose it Stan will dominate the pay tv space

The future of the Australian pay tv market could be decided by who gets the next nrl contract

Rupert Murdoch … we have always preferred afl

Think big picture mate, I expect that`s what V`landys is doing. We`re going to have a competition with an arc from Western Australia to NZ, with massive expansion into the geopolitically crucial Pacific. Remember Wong was invited to the inauguration, French President and English PM weren`t, Rubio`s first meeting was with Wong the day after, the Yanks are focussed big-time of what`s happening down here. They are watching very closely our sports diplomacy, this could open a lot of doors if it shows signs of promise.
Lots of doors could mean lots more funding to expand the game into the Pacific.
Sorry, I didn't realise this was a troll account.

You got me, well played.

Since Foxsports has never paid overs for the nrl then sure they can whine if it happens

Based on ratings the nrl tv deal should be 30 to 50 percent more than the afl deal

So if they pay more than that then fair enough

The current deal is around 300 million
So that would mean Foxsports would need to be paying over 500 million pa

Is that on Fox or on the people at NRLHQ? Fox pay what they feel they have to. why over 25 years that continues to be less than they end up paying for AFL is an interesting question to ponder on.

Stan will be a nightmare for fans if Ch9 is anything to go by! We could lose droves of casual viewers who wont put up with the ineptness of Ch9 coverage.

Same reason cricket gets $20m for 6 weeks of content... perfect for tv with the ad space.

NRL on the otherhand is better when free flowing

Its like the fact News ltd hasnt owned half the game in the last three tv deals has slipped you by.
Your mate Dave smith ruined the second deal so much Murdoch got him sacked and went on tv saying they have always preferred afl and gave afl an extra 100 million just to spite rugby league

Pvl panicked over covid so his first deal wasn’t reflective of market

His next deal will be

As will be proven in a few weeks time the NRL and the AFL for the year 2024 (last year) the money coming from FTA and Pay Tv ARE THE SAME for the NRL and AFL. Proven! So I don't see why we have to bow to the AFL, especially NOW. It was the same with the latest figures available now. So again the latest figures available ie 2023 had the same result. Lets see what we put together in a few months time. Always possible ( see previous scenarios) we could put a better package together to start in 2026 with carrots and sticks approach to get a new ( semi) deal ending up with 2028 being a blow out deal that puts the NRL at the TOP of the heap! ( in TV, PayTV terms only)

Yeh the dopes don’t realise that before the extensions both deals were essentially for the same money

Since then the nrl has added so much content whilst the afl just added Tasmania and the magic round

Expanded nrlw
Pre season challenge
Pacific cup
Dolphins (haven’t seen what they are truly worth)
PNG
Perth bears
Nz2 ?
Women’s origin
Under 19 origin

The nrl can afford to cut two rounds for player welfare and still smash afl in terms of content

Fumblers will be stuck playing more games and having a lower average wages
