I don’t see epl rights having much impact on what nine can offer the nrl either way, the current Optus contract ends in the first year of the new nrl deal. It does allow nine to sell Stan to the nrl as an attractive alternative to DAZN though if they can show they have a suite of other sports & large subscriber base.

This I posted B4. I also had at the back of my mind to stick up a greter deal started in 2027, however thats complicated and events seem to be overtaken by other rights packages coming on in the entertainment area.

This is concerning.( above link) possibly the only good point is the sale of Nine/SMH Real Estate business have them cashed up. But how much are they prepared to spend. However they (Nine) will low ball again. The acquisition of the EPL and F1 would just about sate they thirst for NRL. But they would be missing he opportunity, as per V'landy it is the highest rating product and going higher. If the go for EPL and F1 these product are consumed mainly in the 'wee hours' of the day, it weather they realize this condition fully, by low balling the NRL, justifying the NRL offer amount by saying 'who else' is going to pay. Any way .
If this is the case go to 10 give them Thur, All Friday and one Sunday game leading into their News, for $155mpa. One can say you got a growing international audience UK NZ PNG pacific and small USA opening. Go to home base CBS America show them the game, sell the USA NRL rights to CBS to sweeten the deal.

Now to answer you question I rely to my own with my previous proposal.
The one to peruse would be thus

1. FTA Nine 2 games Fri 8pm Sun 4pm
PAY TV 2 games (only) Stan shows Fri 6pm and Sun 2pm
Grand Final and SOS 3
Package 1 cost $130 per year

2. FTA Ten 2 games 6pm fri (just after slight shorten news)and Sun 2Pm for lead up to news.
Pay Tv 2 games (only) Paramount Plus show Fri 8pm game and Sunday 4pm game.
SOS games 1 and 2.
Package cost $115 per year.

3. Fox/KAyo Paytv show all 8/9 games.
Allowed to have a Monday night game. This allows 2 days where they on have content, up from one day (Sat)
Currently pay around $255m per year increase up to $300m per year.

Special arrangement for PAY TV game Thursday.
Only say Amazon/Netflix/Disney or any outside streamer can have joint showing of TNF with Fox/Kayo.
This outside streamer can can TNF AND a FTA game from package 1 AND 2. to show the payed content.
This could be marked as 3 games (PAY streamed on either Disney, Amazon,or Netflix for say $55 m per year.
So total Australian media equals $600m per year neat, or with out Special arrangements $545m per year.

Attacked this way where you the NRL create the packages and sell. Of course it will be the accounts that have a big say BUT i feel the packages stand up to scrutiny. The special arrangement may be, but for $55 m per year with the NRL providing the 'coverage' it will be a ratings winner for them.

Again create these packages and take them to the media and gauge their intent to buy.

Why the NRL have chosen wisely with the Bears and PNG
The NRL has received a massive vote of support from a global consultancy firm that says Papua New Guinea and the Perth Bears have all the hallmarks to be massive sporting successes.

A global consultancy firm has given a stunning thumbs up to the NRL’s expansion plans claiming Papua New Guinea is poised to create a world-first for sport while the Perth Bears can become one of the game’s leading brands within five years.

Brand Finance is a UK-headquartered brand valuation and strategy company with its Australian managing director Mark Crowe providing The Daily Telegraph analysis and insights into the popularity and financial prospects of the new kids on the NRL block.

The Bears will join the competition in 2027 with PNG to follow a year later. According to Crowe, both clubs possess unique qualities that should underpin long-term success.

He says concerns over the PNG team’s financial sustainability – despite locking in a decade of funding from the Australian Government – ignore wider political and social issues.

“Rugby league is the No. 1 sport in PNG and it’s more than likely this NRL team will become not only an iconic brand for the nation as a whole but undoubtedly the strongest brand in the country,” he said.

“There is no other sporting body on the planet that is considered the biggest brand in its country. This team will transcend sport. It will be an ambassador for PNG. That will give them remarkable brand strength.

“From a brand value perspective, you will have multinational companies – particularly mining firms and other foreign entities operating in PNG – who will want to be a part of that.

“They will see a strong upside to supporting the team, and generating positive relations and goodwill with the PNG government. They will think less about generating sales and all about stakeholder relations.”

Brand Finance released a report late last year ranking the existing 17 NRL teams on brand value and brand strength.

The Brisbane Broncos topped the brand value list at $124 million, followed by Penrith ($108m), South Sydney ($73m), North Queensland ($72m) and Parramatta ($71m).

The Broncos also led brand value where perceptions of the clubs, their market share, and community impacts were measured out of 100. The Broncos scored 80.9 ahead of South Sydney (79.6), Melbourne (77.5), Penrith (77.4) and the Sydney Roosters (75.5).

According to Crowe, the brand strength of Souths and the Storm are positive indicators for Perth.

“The Bears are reviving a heritage brand – which Souths are,” he said. “And they are reintroducing a team into Perth which is a non-traditional NRL market, just like Melbourne.

“As the only rugby league team operating in a state with a population approaching 3 million it will give them market reach that dwarfs other clubs if they get it right. They could easily be in the top 10 strongest and most valuable NRL brands in five years.”

Crowe believes key for the Bears is the recruitment of “one or two” excitement machines – a Reece Walsh, Kalyn Ponga, Nathan Cleary or Ryan Papenhuyzen – who will resonate with younger audiences, drive a new fan base, generate media interest and provide critical digital content.

“Social media is paramount these days because individuals have bigger followings than clubs,” he said. “Reece Walsh has more social media followers than the Broncos.

“For Perth to win over that WA population and leverage that iconic Bears brand into the eastern seaboard, a marquee player is essential.

“Look what Lionel Messi did for Major League Soccer and Inter Miami when he went to the US. The awareness of that competition increased 50 per cent globally. That’s what star power can do.”

One thing is for sure, we can`t accuse the Murdoch press of talking down the game in that article.

If Perth and PNG are the success`s he predicts that`ll be massive for the NRL.

News Ltd don’t have to be nice anymore right since Foxtel was sold ? I’m suspicious … these so and so’s are always pushing some ulterior motive

NRL probably still sells papers and on-line traffic, big picture, maybe they have no agenda now, Lachlan and Sarah having a ball at Vegas, who knows, maybe the word now is to talk the game up.
One thing for sure Channel Nine/SMH are still very much a 50/50 proposition.

Looking at the next deal we are looking at

Pay tv rights Stan or Fox
Origin seven nine and maybe Fox
Pacific cup seven nine and or Fox
Nrl club comp nine
Nz tv rights sky or Dazn / Fox
PNG … digicel pacific

Staying with Fox offers also potentially nz and super league as well

Nine getting the lot means locking everyone else out

Monday night football should allow for a shorter season length by 2 rounds

Especially with an expanded pacific cup which last year generated around 6.5 million in ratings

So a bunch of random nobodies have worked out png will be a valuable nrl team but many dedicated rugby league fans on here don’t

And that’s before the nrl sorts out a tv deal with digicel pacific

50/50 at best …. You got Fitz and Weed killer annoying as anything , but PVL loves Chammas for some unknown reason ….,you would think 9 would do more to promote their main product like 7 does for the AFL

Here is a scenario. In 2007 to 2011, AFL FTA rights were shared between Seven and Ten. I think each network had two games each, and alternated the grand final. Example Ten had the GF in 2007, Seven in 2008.

So each network could schedule two FTA games a week, with Seven having Saturday and MNF. Ten would have Friday night and Sunday afternoon. As usual all games on DAZN (Fox) with Thursday night as exclusive.

Also each network would broadcast SOO and GF in separate years. Eg, Seven host SOO in 2028 and GF in 2029, while Ten has GF in 2028 and SOO in 2029. Both networks could share the games and cost of the rights.

Maybe that scenario is unlikely to happen.

Signs of life at Paramount/Ten:

"Foxtel currently broadcasts every race of the F1 championship behind a paywall, apart from the Australian Grand Prix, which is aired by Network 10. Network 10 owner Paramount is also likely to consider a bid for the full rights package."

Hard to imagine DAZN won`t get these rights if they want them, and why wouldn`t they.

Where does that leave Stan, obviously with big ambitions unfulfilled and willing to throw money around to achieve them.

However as with the EPL they are chasing, its only a certain time spot they can sell. I have heard, I like the EPL, but most games are on late Sunday night ( before Monday work day) especially the blockbusters. So it's limited, and people now can finds highlight packages elsewhere they can watch at leisure. This is also true for F1, as most F1 are in Europe which suffers the same time watch period.
Now the NRL are prime time with a very loyal viewers, in fact its the most popular/watched sport in Australia, AND any network that has it will raise substantially add revenues and have 4 prime time top ten watch/ratings to market their add businesses. Get all your ducks into a row and engage Nine, say Fri (all) and Sunday ticket (2 games) For $180-200m pa. This leaves Foxtel with three (3) clear days Thur, Sat, and (when expended comps ie 9 games) Monday, so again they say 5 live and exclusive games, Foxtel/Kayo, price $320m pa. Start date contract , new, 2027 one year early. So the main point is to see if Nine want to expand and pay more for the NRL and do it NOW. If they delay, dither, put 2 FTA networks into play thereby sideline Nine, they can now bid for a minor or major package.

I get it that F1 and the EPL will be shown mostly overnight live … but how much money has 9 got though ?

Good question but Nine have blown $ on union, World Cups, Olympics, and possibly EPL and F1. They expect to get the same package for $115 m pa. Not this time buddy.
