Or NRLW gets some clear air to kick off their season during stand alone Origin meaning the NRL still fills the content slots
Been saying they should’ve done this years ago
The rlpa should be up in arms with injuries like Moses suffered
Stop nrl for four weeks
Wed night mens origin
Thur night women’s origin
Fri / sat / sun
Samoa v Tonga
England v nz
Under 19 origin

Is everyone here a rabid drug user?
You know we used to have stand alone Origins, but the media, LU and fans complained so much they changed it back.
And Buzz Rothfield opinion on what broadcasters want is like an arsehole, especially given News don't control Fox anymore.
I think this is the best solution I’ve seen. When NRLW becomes established, it could begin the season when men's Origin kicks off, hence have three weeks off of NRL.
But in the next tv deal, with two extra teams coming in, reduce the amount of games per club from 24 down to 23. Then an origin/NRL schedule could be something like:
Women's Origin I- Thursday night
Round 13- Fri night, Sat night, Sun arvo (3 games)
Origin I Wednesday night
Women's Origin II- Thursday night
Round 14- Fri night, Sat night, Sun arvo (3 games)
Origin II Wednesday night
Women's Origin III- Thursday night
Round 15- Fri night, Sat night, Sun arvo (3 games)
Origin III Wednesday night
*100% Footy special Origin recap edition. Thursday night.*
Round 16- Fri night, Sat arvo/night, Sun arvo/night, Mon night (9 games)
In that schedule, each team only plays one game without Origin players with two byes. There's a ten day lead in to Origin I, then seven days apart to Origins II and III. Origin is all over in 24 days. And it only impacts two games per club. One without Origin players, the other with players backing up.
I always hear fans saying you can't stop the competition but why can't we? At the moment it feels like the competition is on pause anyway and I always clock off until its over. A three week all star break sounds like a heap of fun, and so much more exciting than what we are getting now.I think this is the best solution I’ve seen.
You could also have the u19 SOO series in that schedule. This way there is still NRL content in prime time every week but will have less games without star players. We can’t stop the comp for a month to play SOO it won’t work. And we can’t have internationals either. Tonga and Samoa will be missing all thier best players and there isn’t the demand/interest for a NZ v Eng series every year.
Any suggestions of moving SOO to a Sunday are off the mark. That was tried a few years ago and the ratings were a disaster.
We had stand alone Origins as recently as 2022, and everyone (mainly the media) cracked the shits about it, Fox actively sabotaged it (Paul Kent for example), and the NRL folded and change back.I always hear fans saying you can't stop the competition but why can't we? Sunday Night before Origin 1 - We have a live show announcing both teams. Make it a big event and stop the journos spoiling it.
Thursday night - Under 19's Origin (Men and Women).
Friday night - Women's State of Origin.
Saturday night - Give the Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns some rep games. No idea how you do it but we need to figure something out and keep putting the pressure on Rugby Union over there.

This is actually the best idea I've seen. The only issue I can see though is that we'll have 19 teams soon, meaning that one team will miss out on playing a game throughout that entire origin period. With 20 teams we could put an extra game in round 14.
Good point. So in the lead up to Origin III, schedule 4 matches so that every team plays, although one club has to play two games without origin players.
However that team will get a bye straight after Origin and not worry about players backing up. A temporary inconvenience until the comp gets to an even number of 20 teams.
Why are we letting people like Paul Kent decide what's good and what's not? Whilst I don't mind the guy, he can have some shocking opinions. We had stand alone Origins as recently as 2022, and everyone (mainly the media) cracked the shits about it, Fox actively sabotaged it (Paul Kent for example), and the NRL folded and change back.
He who pays the piper. Kent was just a mouth piece for whatever News Ltd/Fox's agenda was.Why are we letting people like Paul Kent decide what's good and what's not? Whilst I don't mind the guy, he can have some shocking opinions.
Regardless I think something will end up happening in the next broadcast deal, especially when the clubs aren't happy with the current system (they must lose quite a bit of money during this period on ticket sales).
