You can add journalists from the Aus Financial Review to your 'no f**king idea' list, thats where i was getting the info from and provided links. No one posting on LU has any f**king idea about this subject BUT some of you are more delusional than others thats for sure.
Yep, the annual figure is what he'll be judged on not the total. It's all good to say 4 billion is the biggest Australian TV deal in pure dollars, but if it's over 10 years it doesn't mean anything"Mr V’landys has publicly stated that he is eyeing a record broadcast rights deal for the sport, possibly in the vicinity of $3bn-4bn over seven-to-10 years.
The current five-year rights deal is worth $2bn to the NRL".
Another one of these quotes. $4 Billion over 10 years would be a lower value deal than the current with inflation.
$600 million per year is the pass mark. With a 10 year deal - should be $8 Billion+ to cover inflation and general increase in value.
Im hungry, I'm off to cook some steaksI feel ‘cooked’ just reading this thread![]()
Agree, and to keep saying we are after a record deal when previous NRL TV deals have lagged AFL and where NRL is now, most of us on LU would be able to negotiate a record deal given the extra games the NRL is offering, internationals, ratings, etc. As you said, it's what the per annum amount that is important, the total will just flow from that depending on the length of the deal. And if PVL doesn't deliver a per annum deal that exceeds the AFL given how he has talked the game up, the recriminations will be interesting given the self interest the clubs have and always wanting more money.Yep, the annual figure is what he'll be judged on not the total. Yeah well said, and honestly there will be backlash from the hardcore fans too that are sick of the game getting undersAgree, and to keep saying we are after a record deal when previous NRL TV deals have lagged AFL and where NRL is now, most of us on LU would be able to negotiate a record deal given the extra games the NRL is offering, internationals, ratings, etc. As you said, it's what the per annum amount that is important, the total will just flow from that depending on the length of the deal. I was going to write an answer but couldnt be bothered, its like trying to talk sense to the local ice addict at the servo.Because the TV Tonight website posts demo breakdowns, FTA will be a thriving industry for the next century and 7,9 and 10 have nothing to worry about, streaming will soon die.
I don't know about you, but if my industry went from 100% saturation to 60% in a few short years, I'd be sort of concerned.
Oztam know exactly whos watching because each box is designated to an individual. Netflix or Youtube dont know whos sitting on the coach. For this reason FTA can guarentee commercials reach thier audience. Anyways, not sure how we ended up down this rabbit hole as it isnt relevant to anything other than its a small advantage FTA has over streamers.About OzTAM ratings
OzTAM TV ratings, along with its BVOD measurement service for internet-delivered TV content, are key inputs into Australia's new integrated Total TV database, Virtual Australia (or 'VOZ').
OzTAM's Television Audience Measurement (TAM) is based on actual viewing behaviour in 5,250 panel homes in Australia's five mainland capital cities - Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
OzTAM’s TV ratings service provider, Nielsen TAM, collects and produces TV ratings data on OzTAM’s behalf.
Households are recruited to OzTAM’s television audience measurement panel via a large-scale Establishment Survey that defines the population to be represented and its characteristics, and OzTAM samples the viewing of 12,000+ real people 24/7/365.
OzTAM uses a sophisticated metering system that captures viewing to all broadcast television channels on all TV sets in panel homes.
What is VOZ?
Virtual Australia, or ‘VOZ’, is the foundation of Australia’s ‘Total TV’ measurement standard. VOZ brings together broadcast viewing on TV sets and granular BVOD viewing on connected devices to provide truly national, de-duplicated, all-screen, cross platform planning, trading and reporting for Australia’s media industry.
The VOZ Total TV service delivers the primary trading currency from Sunday December 29, 2024.

Now I'm not sure how the OzTAM system knows which individuals are in the room when the telly is on and how its data is any better than the streaming services in how best to direct the panty liner advertisers to get best bang for buck, but I would back a home that has IoT devices and systems (nearly every home has IoT) to be more accurate than the 5,250 panel homes in Australia's five mainland capital cities.
FTA was on my telly the other night and a movie came on. I started watching it, but by the second ad break, I searched my subscriptions and found it on Prime, switched to Prime, started the move from where I was on FTA and watched it 40 mins before it finished on FTA.
FTA survives due to government mandated live sport carve outs. Demographically speaking, FTA will decline further each year as the more tech averse boomers shuffle off.
Prime's streaming service probably started out as a loss leader. I got "free" access to Prime because I was an Amazon subscriber. I use Amazon a bit and when it comes time to reviewing which streaming services I am quitting/changing, Prime is never on the chopping block as I view it as a free extra I get from my Amazon subscription. I pay for my Amazon subscription as it gets me fast delivery service, music, etc. Streamers have so many more advantages and flexibility than FTA. When the costs of FTA delivery are too much, they will deliver content solely through 9now, 7+, etc.
@insert.pause ?There’s so much wrong here I just can’t be bothered.
This is called a strawman argumentI was going to write an answer but couldnt be bothered, its like trying to talk sense to the local ice addict at the servo.
This is a bloke that told us Vegas would be as big as a disaster as AFLX. How did those comments age ?
Whats the piont in answering when everything goes over your head ?This is called a strawman argument
Probably the worst analogy in the history of the world.Whats the piont in answering when everything goes over your head ?
Apple lost a large part of its market share to Android. Based on your logic Apple is dieng ?
Sorry, was just trying to make it as simple as i can for you.Probably the worst analogy in the history of the world.
FTA is not losing ground to another FTA company.
Whats the piont in answering when everything goes over your head ?
He might just be guessing but he does work for the nrl
Mnf would be awesome it if returns
