I think the main positives are:
1) Not having to put up with Gus
2) No ads for the block.

I am slightly torn - having everything on one FTA provider is simple for people. But it means the others will ignore it.

On the other hand, fragmentation is very confusing and would likely limit cross promotion.

What would people think about something like:
- All games of any variety on a single PayTV provider be that Fox or DAZN.
- FTA split as follows
- Regular season on 9
- Origin on 10
- International on 7

That is a nice spread ensuring that all networks get on board and promote. But i can see 9 throwing a hissy fit if they don't get it all.

As a bonus one of them could pick up late night NRL Europe.
One of the downsides of Origin on 7 would be non stop promotion of AFL during the coverage.... Coming up tomorrow night on 7, some irrelevant Melbourne suburb v another Melbourne suburb that moved to Brisbane or Sydney so we can pretend to be loved nation wide

that's why I'd love 7 to get MNF! ads throughout their weekend AFL coverage for whatever cracking game the NRL schedules for the Monday night

Dear god, they`d probably use it to try and legitimise the fumbles pathetic attempt at copying the concept. Oh the horror. fumble soo ads during ours.
We have to watch these bastards they might try it, prob best to use them to make Nine pay more.

I'd hope on the off chance 7 gets origin, there would be a rule from the NRL not to have competing codes advertised during the event.

I feel 2027 is going to be terrible for that, with the Union World Cup on straight after the NRL.

Seven are not getting Origin as a stand alone folks ….. they will at least need to pony up for Monday nights

likely Origin remains with whoever is doing the heavy lifting on the NRL Free to air as per usual

If you were a TV station, and you were dictated as to what advertising and or promotion you could make, then surely you would need to be compensated for that via reduced rights money.

If you're only asking 7 for no AFL advertising during Rugby League programming, then I don't see it as a big issue, but then again I'm also not a TV producer, so who knows.

nine sent their morning show to gather round and did some promo for the afl grand final
Which is all about getting ratings up for 9 rather than telling people to switch over to 7 or Foxtel to watch AFL.

Let's say 9 gets the league H&A rights and 10 gets SOO. While 9 will mention SOO, it would be pretty hard not to, I doubt it will show ads during in-game coverage or normal programming telling people to go to 10 to watch SOO and 10 telling people to go to 9 to watch H&A games.

If I was 9 paying for the H &A rights ..I would be making sure I get SOO as well….my bid would be inclusive of this , so unless the NRL has another FTA bidder prepared to show all the FTA games they are screwed ….they are 3 of the 5 biggest sports shows of the year and I don’t know why another channel are getting them for relative chump change

It’s interesting valuation isnt it.

theres been mention of origin being worth $30mill.
if true that means 9 is paying just $85mill for three games a week plus finals plus exclusive GF.

The $30m figure was some media guesstimate I recall …. I doubt at the moment a genuine TV rights figure for Origin exists … Nine puts up a total figure to cover the NRL season and that includes the three Origin games … at the moment they are getting the Women’s Origin for free ..1 million plus rating games… they need to be paying something for that next time

Something that I haven't seen discussed in the media yet is what is happening for 2027 when we will have an extra game per round on the last year of the current deal.

Simple maths says 8 games is 400M a year, so an extra 50M for 2027 would seem fair. I would hope the broadcasters aren't getting it for free.

Also do fox and 9 have exclusive rights to bid for it or could another company broadcast the 9th game for a year?

Thinking about this global round and it could be aimed at someone like Prime, giving them an annual event that services a global market and acts like a trailer for the rest of season, in the hope that people will watch the games that may be broadcast in their timezone & then continue to follow it throughout the rest of the year on prime.

I’d suggest it’s going to be part of the next deal starting a year early if the incumbents win the rights again.
