But surely that`ll be a problem for their 6pm Sunday night News broadcast, biggest news broadcast of the week.
Not sure what you mean. This time slot hasn’t been a problem since it was introduced years back for the early season rounds. We have seen this time slot for almost half a decade now. Plus it’s a Fox exclusive time slot - News broadcast has no impact on it.

As I said this time slot has been trialled for a number of years for a reason.

Also just to reiterate incase you’re not sure that’s 6:15pm EST… just like the games played last week (titans v dragons), and week before that (cowboys v titans). Meaning this time slot is 4:15pm WST - no impact on their news broadcasts irrespective of what broadcaster shows it.

Think he means nine news Sydney

Current six pm games are only shown on Fox

If fta want to show it then it would have to be after nine news and current affair?

Why is the Easter Monday clash of Eels v Tigers not on FTA today... it's a big opportunity lost for the NRL when the AFL is on FTA nationally

There has already been four FTA games during Easter:

Thursday night: Dolphins v Manly
Good Friday: Souths v Bulldogs and Penrith v Storm
Easter Sunday: Newcastle v Canberra

Normally there is only three FTA games per week. Other times where Nine broadcasts four FTA games per week- ANZAC round and the final five rounds of the season.

Chanel 10 bid circa $600m for all AFL rights last time. It wouldn't surprise me if they put forward a $800m p.a. bid for all NRL FTA and digital rights as not much more content available for a while.

Interesting if NRL will go that way if no one else comes close.

Nice idea but where would they find room in the schedule with popular reality franchises like I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Big Brother and Masterchef airing in the timeslot?

Wouldn’t they just move them to an extra weeknight?

Maybe, but Sunday night is normally their highest rating episode so it might be seen as a risk, especially in markets like Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth where primetime NRL is not a guaranteed ratings winner.

The finale of I'm A Celebrity 2026 rated 571k. Big Brother's Finale was 690k.

For context, Thursday NRL averaged 657k last year just for regular matches. Having the NRL before 10's primetime shows will actually boost their audiences if those shows are aired in the 8:30+ slots with an NRL lead-in.

I assure you, most weeks 10 is already coming 4th in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide on a Sunday night behind the ABC, 7 & 9. Also Perth would be a 4:30-6:30 slot, not post-news prime time.

I think we have different interpretations of what a fact is ….I don’t think it’s weird to ask people to back up what they say … particularly when the response is confined to …”look they literally said it a month ago”
Just quoting what was said by the CEO.

Adelaide and Perth are practically rounding errors.
