I'm thinking that 2.2 may not include NZ rights?

If so could be closer to 2.35

Of course Gould might not be taking into account the reduction from channel nine as fox have bought back the sat game. In which case he might be a little off.

But then , it's late & im tired. Who the hell knows.

IF Gus is right:

Fox = 35m p.a. SAT + 25m p.a. simulcasting + 175m other four games = 235m p.a. = 1.175bn/5 years
Nine = 125m p.a. = 625m/5 years
Total TV = 1.8bn
Telstra/NZ = ~400m/5 years
Total Rights = 440m p.a. = $2.2bn/5 years

Time will tell what the end figure is, but I like that fairfax seems to be breaking the news first.
News execs licking their wounds before letting their journo puppets know?

On those numbers Nine are the ones looking like genius'

9 paying $125M p.a for the 3 best games per week + 4 of the biggest tv ratings shows in the country with this deal..

While fox pays double that, ... They would want simulcasts of all SOO and finals and GF , nines etc for that kinda cash

Hoping gus is right but until I see it I'm going to assume its more like 1.8 billion. Just once I'd like to see rugby league get the pay day it deserves but I've been a fan of the game too long and have just come to expect the worst. Either way it's a lot of money and the game should be well set up for the future. Let's hope we finally start to see the game grow in other ways (expansion, crowds, tv ratings, international competition etc).
