The $1.8 billion was on the table when News had their first sook months and months ago, it's got to be higher or else it makes Grant look like he's gone begging which his ego would surely never allow.

Lol@ the news ltd articles What a load of shit .
"We understand"
"Insiders say"
lol the usual lies
Didn't Grant say in an interview that they were in no hurry, yet according to these taeds he is scurrying around trying to get a deal done .

They are trying to twist it to look like the pressure is on Grant.
I suspect it's some lame face saving exercise for when they have to stump up the $$$$$

They truly are a sorry bunch of little kids. Keep spouting the same rubbish in the hope that somehow the NRL will roll over.

However, the part of me that gets anxious about all sorts of things, keeps worrying the NRL will f*** up. I can't help it, being a lifelong Rugby League and Sharks supporter.

Is that 1.85 without NZ, streaming and naming rights???

Otherwise more spin from the pricks that make Warne look like. Straight breaker.

We know the SAT game is allegedly worth 35m pa & simulcasting 25m pa, while earlier articles speculated the other four games were at 130m pa with the NRL unhappy with that number. So that's 190m pa, if it's going to end up at 2.2bn with fox putting in 1.175bn alone then the NRL has to get an additional 45m p.a from somewhere, which makes me think that a 6pm friday game is likely, boosting the value of the 4 'other' games to 175m pa.

If that's the case I don't mind so much because at least they have paid up for it and I think the NRL can get creative enough around the draw to limit it's impact on crowds. Still think it's a stupid idea but the money makes it easier to live with.

I just don't get why Foxtel would be pushing a Friday 6pm game over a Sunday night game...Makes zero sense for any party... Even Nine would be disadvantaged as it would mean people would be watching the end of the 6pm game when the Nine game kicks off

Yeah, I know, and I believe it'll get better. Just the nagging doubts that bubble up.

Depending on where they are played I think they could avoid the games overlapping, fox want it because it builds their audience for the simulcast nine game that would follow it on friday night, essentially giving them a sixth game & eating into Nine's audience. Traditionally Sunday night hasn't rated very well for the NRL. You also have to remember that for fox it's an investment, they are trying to change the way Australian's consume sport into the US model, in a decades time we may all be use to watching games on friday night on fox and paying for it. It wasn't that long ago Monday night football was a crazy idea, now we have thursday night football, people eventually adjust, even without realising it.

I cant recall the NRL having a regular Sunday night slot previously?

Even so, do you expect Friday 6pm to be better for Fox? More people out on a Friday night or in the process of commuting home from work compared with Sunday at 6pm...

Kick off at 6pm the game wont finish until 8pm... I don't know why Nine would want to even have another game against them when their coverage starts at 7.30pm.. even if they plan to show a half hour of rubbish before the game

they did in 2013, then reduced them to a handful of games in 2014 & 2015.

it's not just about the 6pm game, it's about the game that follows, the 6pm game could be thought of as an entree.

Friday 6pm is much much worse a timeslot (both for TV and attending the game) than Monday 7pm.

The QLD gov have even come out and said they cannot legally host games in this timeslot at Suncorp because they won't be able to provide adequate public transport to the stadium because the trains will be tied up in getting the peak hour rush workers home.

Danny Weidler has just tweeted

Obviously take it with a grain of salt. A fist full even.

He's saying "no Friday 6pm game NEXT YEAR" but other changes brought forward.
Nine asx announcement said no deal has been done on any transaction, but I think wiedler is right and it will be done today. Not sure how bringing it forward will impact broadcast revenue in the next two years, since both nine & fox would be giving something up they arent likely going to pay more then they are already contracted to.

I think Fox will pay more for the next 2 years because they are potentially getting a lot more with simulcast all 8 games plus finals. 9 also get thursdays live. Any premium that's paid for those two years might be added to the total figure, giving $2.2b ?
Figures are all speculation anyway at this point.
interesting day ahead regardless!
