Heard this morning that Chanel 7 has contemplated showing the other four NRL games on 7mate. If this was to occur I think it would be marvelous for the game and I would cancel my Pay TV service come the start of footy season.

As far as Pay TV current objective for NRL coverage. I would suggest they try to gain the Saturday night 7.30pm game and see if Channel 9 would cover the 3pm/3.30pm afternoon game. The real benefit of this would be that kids are exposed to RL at a very user friendly time instead of viewing the "training run" code of AFL.

Fox can also look at Sunday 6.30pm game as well which would prove to be very popular once the public are aware of it.

Interesting to see how things pan out. Or if the ratbags get their way again.

News Corp have set a precedent by signing the AFL to the parent company. After this round of f**king stupid anti-NRL propaganda I wouldn't be surprised if the NRL push for some positive content/promotion guarantees in the News Corp press (like the AFL got) as part of the negotiations.

Which I think News are prepared for. It's a bargaining chip. Something that isn't really relevant but they can use to lower the actual cash figure in exchange for positive coverage and count it as contra.

It's something they're creating so that we'll bargain for them to stop it.

I'm sure Seven are still bitter at Foxtel and News Corp for the C7 dramas. I doubt it would seriously eventuate, but their presence would make Fox shit themselves.

Thanks Doc. Tend to agree on most. I think the nature of Smith's departure can be judged on the haste with which the deal is done. To me, they wanted him out of the way so they can deal. See what happens.

Id question whether it is actually being rushed....

Sure we only found out yesterday, but that is the nature of an organisation that does not leak; no forewarning. Also, he is sticking around for another month and a half (Gallop was gone the same day) meaning he is considered valueable to the business.

I reckon he will be off the Tv rights comity already, but it still seems to be a fairly steady transition.

If Ribot gets the CEO gig, does that mean E.T will be pushing the code in China?

No need to rush anything

If Grant rushes through a deal then i would say its his time to leave his post.

If a deal is done by the end of the year, which seems likely, it doesn't mean that it's rushed. It could very well be the best time for the deal to be done. We won't know anything until we know the details of the final deals.

Hell, if the new deal starts next season, we'll be laughing.

They won't accept anything short of what they believe the rights are worth, if fox make a fair offer they could do a deal today, doesn't mean it's rushed.

Yeah agree, but if this deal is done early and for a low ball offer then Grant its time to step down.

Broncos CEO even knows that with time our deal increases in value.

The only time it would make sense to rush a deal is if they Pay what the rights are worth.

The only other time a early deal is worth doing is if it starts next year then as you say the NRL comes out winners.

Steve Allen from Fusion Strategy reckons the NRL won't even get $600m for both pay & digital rights and their best case scenario is a continuation of the current deal.

So according to this idiot the NRL's rights aren't worth any more than they were four years ago because Murdoch's feelings were hurt.

Ok, let's see what happens when Fox lose the rights for a season, since so called media analysts seem to think Fox buying sports rights is somehow charity.

He'll have 6 weeks gardening leave. Will clean out the desk and be unseen I would imagine.

At his job with Lloyds, he gave his resignation notice and they kept him around until the very last day.

Assuming he is leaving on good terms with the people inside League Central, he will presumably be a part of the hand-over period.

Rent-a-quote Colin smith was joining in, I swear I have heard more about the NRL rights from bloody Colin Smith than I have from Smith or Grant. He's done very well from it, wonder how much News Corp are throwing his way.
