we had a lot more to play for than the Dragons

we could possibly have got two bites at the cherry if we'd won

It was all relient on other teams losing in front of us though. The Dragons had to win to ensure a top 2 finish, which statistically speaking is a MUCH bigger benefit than a possible two bites at the cherry that isn't even guaranteed if other results go against you in the first week.

i'm just crossing my fingers that the Panthers get their fingers out - cos honestly, we'd get wholloped by the dragons ... they are on too much of a high now

Yes please. Go Panthers. Much rather face the doggies next week than the dragons.
Not that I'm saying the Doggies would be a push over, because we all know that's not true. Just the lesser of two evils perhaps.

You never stated that a loss would of necessarily been the end of the world.

You clearly said DA would not necessarily of wanted to win this game.

Can I quote you earlier?

"Go read the thread/post properly, you dumb merkin. It clearly says, I dont think DA wanted to win the game."

So um, back then I clearly said 'I don't think DA wanted to win the game".

But now above, you concede that I clearly said "DA would not necessarily of wanted to win this game"

So not only are you unable to grasp the definition of "necessarily", it is patently obvious that you also have difficulties with the term "clearly".

Because I am pretty sure that "clearly" you can not use it twice to describe two conflicting statements.

There is a huge difference between "not wanting to win a game" and "not necessarily wanting to win a game" - again, maybe in Anderson's eyes a close loss would have relieved the pressure of the winning streak, without hurting the team's confidence.

To him, that may have been better than winning 8 straight, knowing the streak would have to go to an unprecedented 12 to win the comp.

Who knows?

It is a pure speculative view, and my hope by posting it, was to promote healthy discussion, and not to have to put up with misguided rants from dimwitted, uncertain imbeciles such as yourself.

For mine, it appears you keep painting yourself in to your corner, and now you have resorted to contradicting your former posts with your later ones, in a misguided attempt to save face.

You just dont get it do you. So what was DA game plan. To see how the team can play without Hindmarsh and Grothe. Or lets play St George into form, for the sake of the NRL. Or lets see how the 2 wrights play tonight.Or lets just turn up, cause we are in the 8 no matter what.

Winning the game would of been part of the plan. Thank f**k, you aint on the coaching staff, you moron.

The great Jack Gibson used to say that coaches receive too much credit when the team wins and too much flak when they lose.

WWoS. Pearce off Jack, Gibbs in? What did you say, Pearce off Jack Gibbs in. Don't tell me to Piss off u f**k nut.... moments later....hohoho I've gone crushing to the ground. The great man didn't take sh*t from no-one. Daniel Anderson needs to take a pre-recorded message into the dressing sheds next week with some Jack Gibson words of wisdom. Maybe take sterlo in with him.
Avenger, if we can pull off a win next week, Daniel Anderson has done his job for this year!

At no stage did i say that the coach did not want to win the game, or that he coached us not to win the game. If that is what is taken from my post, i apologise. What i meant was, that the boys werent set to win it at all costs. Next week they will be.

I dont believe for one second that DA coached them to lose. That did not happen. But i dont believe they went into the game with a win at all costs attitude either.

I really dont see a drama in the loss, as long as we got through it without any major injuries. If anything I think its a monkey off the back for the players. With all the press we've had lately it will be a good chance to shrug that off and get back to business this week. Finishing 5th or 6th was only gunna be acheived with upsets in other games this weekend and does it really matter? I know it's an old cliche but to be the best you have to beat the best and if we cant beat the dogs or dragons next week then we dont deserve to go passed that stage.

well said

You're probably right, Parra have been playing sudden death for 7 weeks now and realising they don't need to win tonight, they eased off the gas. That in no means should implicate the coach in mischevous coaching. If anything, Bennett should be the one under scrutiny by suggesting teams need to lose to ensure complacency doesn't creep into semi-final games. I would say this was one of those things that happened which can be better explained in due course. Next week will explain many things.
1. Whether our purple patch ended
2. Whether tonight was the loss we need to have
3. Whether regular seaon games mean anything

The tigers won a whole stack of game in 2005 before losing their last 2 regular games. We know what happened that year. We'll learn more next week.

Cheers.

Agree with newmanj's original post. To add to it, that performance was so different to the last few months. I haven't seen the stats but it seemed like they were trying to just play physical and left the style that worked away. I don't think our forwards did much ball playing before the line and there seemed to be a lot less offloads. Poor handling didn't help and bennett's plan to stop hayne worked (ie keep the ball away from him).

I can't see that same performance two weeks in a row.

Kudos to the dragons for controlling the game. They were the better side

We are dreaming if anyone thought we could win 12 straight to win the GF. There had to be a loss somewhere and if anyone can tell a better time the loss could have come at, please let me know.

Agreed. They will bounce back when the heart n soul of the eels is back wearing # 11
