NFL Target Dave Taylor

I love nothing stories.

Willie Mason to the NFL
Adam Gilchrist to MLB
A union vs league game to happen (good one Paul Kent)

And now Taylor to the NFL. Sleep summed it up pretty well. Taylor does not fit in into the NFL. He is a dwarf compared to some of the linesman who are like 6'6 150kg.

Correct some of them are monsters some of the african-american imparticular are modern day frankensteins......

1,000,000's playing in high school, 1000's playing in college's every year and only 100's in the NFL they have a talent pool that makes the NRL look like a dry lake.

Its clear this is not coming from the NFL or NFL teams themselves, but from these ex-Aussie Rules guys (OzPunt) trying to drum up some interest and hopefully attract some commision for sending a player to the NFL.

This has now come up at this time of the season for about the last 4 years running.

Funny thing is if Willie was going to do this, now would be the time, seeing as his days as a top line NRL player seem well and truly over.

Rubbish his nearly done as an athlete what is he now late 20's? No way he could learn a completely new sport at this stage.

He's not that undersized height-wise.

6"3" is the average height for DT's and 6"4 for OG, Taylor is almost 6"3 with athleticism that would be at least the equal of 80-90% of players of similar stature.

The big problem for him would be to put on 20-30lbs and keep his most of his agility.
taylor is 185cm and 115kg, just to illustrate the size difference, the 4 DT's who played in the 2008 pro bowl

kevin Williams-196cm and 141kg
Pat williams-191cm and 143kg
Vince Wilfork-188cm and 147kg
Albert Haynesworth-198cm and 159kg

Haynesworth has 13cm and 44kg on him

I recall back in 1997 the Brisbane Broncos went to Denver to see the Denver Broncos. Tallis and Lazarus stood next to some of the big boppers and they looked like what a jockey would appear to be if they stood next to Lazo and Tallis.....bloody small.

Theyre all elite players.

Not everyone in the NFL is an athletic freak like is being made out here.

PS. Said in the paper the other day Taylor was 120kg (270lbs).

yeah look its unlikely that unless a boom NRL player gets into a college... say Israel goes over after his year of NRL - that it would happen.

But honestly, you don't think Taylor could easily put on 30 kilos.. I reckon he would jump at the chance.

Rugby league athletes are some of the best in the world...

Obviously african americans have a natural advantage.. but Inglis, Jennings, Hayne, Folau are arguably the best athletes in either union, league or AFL...

they are certainly in the top ten... and I would personally add the Titans' Kevin Gordon to that list.. he is a freak.

the point is.

it is extremely culturally cringe of you to suggest athletes which are world leaders in their sport could not at least hang with NFL players.

I don't think their athleticism is holding them back, it's their lack of knowledge.

I think I made this point before, after Aus basketballer Patty Mills scored 18 points against USA in the Beijing olympics, American guard Chris Paul said Mills was one of the quickest players he had faced and that he was quicker than him... Chris Paul would be one of the quickest ball players in the world.

Its not athleticism that is holding Mills' game back, his athleticism is outstanding in comparison to the african american top level ball players.. it's the skill level.

it would be the same for top level league players.

there are a dickload of Samoans playing NFL now... their ranks have exploded recently...

hmmm I wonder if there is a correlation to league here....

even at 270lbs he'd still have to put on another 25lbs, maintain his speed and mobility and learn the game from scratch. Its like saying if Joven Clarke was 10kg heavier and had talent he could've played origin...

Samoans are built for the NFL trenches, you go to any school in NSW, QLD or NZ and the biggest kids are usually the Polynesians. You put a nunch of big Samoans in US HS and college systems and its inevitable you'll get 'a dickload' playing NFL
The problem is not that our guys are any less athletic, they're definately athletic enough (wouldn't include taylor in that list) but say compare Inglis to a 6'4 college WR, over 40 yards Inglis might have 0.3 secs on him if that along with maybe 3cm and 5 kg but you can't buy 6 or 7 years of HS and college experience

well I think you would find his league backgroudn would give added benefits, that a college doesn't have but apart from that you are exactly right.

I'm trying Samoan are cracking it here and over there.. its not like they discovered a secret batch of Samoans design especially for the NFL, they are from the same mould we see every weekend.

Both Lazo and Tallis were/are 6ft 2. Not exactly huge in comparison to players from other sports.

I saw Saffa RU players Victor Matfield (2.01m) and Bakkie Botha (2.02m) a few years ago at a local steakhouse in Brisbane. Both of them ate 2 steaks...

But you are spot on. These guys are huge. Not only that they are trained from day dot to be explosive.

different types of athletes playing different sports for the majority of their lives. the body shapes, fitness types and experience in the chosen sport makes it nearly impossible for players from both codes to switch. i doubt there is a player in the nfl that could make it in rugby league, just the same as it is the other way around.

i was surprised to learn that Dave Taylor was only 185cm or 6'1". Even double checked it on the Broncos website. Thought he was a couple of inches taller than that.

Why would they take a "chance" on an untried Aussie who has never played the game when they literally have tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of kids who have been brought up with the game? Kicking a ball is one thing, playing a very specialised position in such a technically challenging code is quite another.

These are my exact thoughts regarding K. Hunt and AFL.

Hes an elite athlete so he wont fail too bad, but he cant be expected to match the performance of individuals whom have played the sport for their entire lives.

Whether or not Taylor desires to play NFL is a whole issue in its self

They had this exact same article, almost word for word, in an NZ newspaper a few months ago, except Manu Vatuvei was in Taylor's place.

as said unless they come through the system or are an excellent kicker they have no chance. You think a guy with no background knowledge of the game is going to be better than a guy who has played it since he was 6. The thing doesnt make any sense, firstly there is no such thing as a defensive tight end. Thirdly the NFL training camps are held in late July through August for early Sept season opening. The best way for any guy looking to crack the NFL would be to try and get a runon spot at one of the universities and go from there.

So, according to this article (which is nonsense - as we all seem to agree), NRL players are now being targetted by the English SuperLeague, Aussie, French, Japanese rugby unions, AFL, and now american gridiron.

We'll have no-one left soon!

We will,
trust me.

Junior rates arent dying and only a few of the cream of the crop are being targeted.
