I must admit, I was stunned when they went to the commercial break with the statement that either Daniel, Chanel or Courtney was in the bottom three -- I knew there was something desperately wrong with the competition if any of the three were not considered in the top 5, let alone the top 11.
Emelia probably should have gone -- either her or Dan whose voice doesn't impress me one iota. Unfortunately, they killed the show by eliminating Angie.
Angie was in my top 5 singers in the competition -- she has attitude, a very powerful voice, and broke all stereotypes of who could be successful. But the whole Idol format, and indeed the demographic it appeals to, is not conducive to keeping a lady like Angie in. Teeny-bopping 13-year-olds are hardly going to relate to a big Fijian lady who sings soul music. They will generally vote for attractive blokes, regardless of singing ability (case in point Dan and Anthony), or girls who they are not intimidated by.
Perhaps I ought not to try and explain the logic of why Angie was not voted into the next round -- I don't really understand it. I didn't think she would win the competition, but she certainly deserved to go much further than the likes of Dan, Anthony, Emelia, Amali and others.
Not seeing Ngarie in the top 12 was ridiculous enough, but to lose Angie so early in the competition is detrimental to the show's credibility.
