Come on mate. The whole Novocastrian thing is portrayed as a major thing in Newcastle.

You don't think that by getting on board with the only two national competition sporting teams in the city that he was getting on the good side of the whole region?

The Jets are surplus to his requirements now.

No, I don't. If Tinkler believed that then he is down right stupid. Soccer in this country is going backwards at a rapid rate. I'll say it again, they spent $45 million on a World Cup bid with no return. They deserve their heads kicked in. That is an obscene amount of money for absolutely no gain to anyone in this country.

Tinkler and Palmer have raised some extremely sensitive issues within the FFA structure that need to addressed. They now think they will have a Western Sydney team up and running in no time. No due diligence, no nothing. These people are living on another planet.

No doubts mate. The FFA and the A-League are in a load of trouble.

The Jets cost Tinkler how much in the end? $20 mil?
The coal loader would have made that look like nothing that if it went through.

I am very sceptical about the bloke. He never struck me as a person who would do anything for the good of anyone else. It's all about him.

I hope he stays with the Knights. Rugby League need blokes with money. My club could do with some!

At the end of the day, if Tinkler pulls out of the Knights and HSG become obsolete then the net effect on the population in Newcastle will be felt. No doubt there. Many people will be pissed off and your view will be quantified ten fold. He will be a very unpopular man if he isn't already.

However, as a Knights supporter, my understanding is that the Knights have had their debts wiped, facilities upgraded and there is a $20 million bank guarantee that will ensure the club remains viable. If that is true then Knights supporter needs to be worried about what Tinkler does.

I hope that's the case mate. Honestly, I do.

BUT, I'm sure Tinks has battled his way out of many a legal fight before. He'll just throw money at someone else to make sure he gets his way.

If things went REALLY nasty, I wouldn't put it past him spending $25mil, just to make sure that the Knigths didn't get his $20mil. Sad.

How much of these "upgrades" and infrastructure and what not is actually property of Nathan Tinkler? And how much in the Knights property?
Is everything as transparent as he wants the FFA to be?

Well according to Phil Rothfield the bloke has borrowed money to pay for the last pie he bought so I'd say he owns absolutely nothing!!!!!!!!!

Tinks never pays up till a court orders him to.
He is like most billionaires - you won't get a penny out of him without squeezing hard.

If the FFA get money out of him it will be in 10 years after it's been through every court in the country.

What percentage of the Newcastle population could give a shit about the Jets?

Nailed it, does the vast bulk of the general population really care.

No.

I really think this is about getting a better deal from FFA as he thinks he was dudded.

Tinks has the whip hand here as he likely knows that FFA looks unlikely to have the brass to wage total war with him unless Lowy wants to dip into his fortune to fund it and he hasn't shown that desire thus far.

FFA has to get this resolved quickly otherwise its a circus that will eat the A League and cost it more money as they will need to fund the Jets.

I think both parties need to take a step back and start talking again.

Let's not forget that the TV rights to the A-League expires in June next year. They have just lost two teams in the past month. They are in deeeeep shit. Hence their haste do get Western Syd up and running after the GC debacle. Now Tinky pulls the plug on the Jets and really throws a spanner in the works. This will be interesting to watch.

That $20 million bank guarantee looks better than it is. Obviously when the deal was done he wasn't going to put up much more and it is a chunky amount. But before Tinkler the Knights were losing how much? Half a million or more a year? Im not sure. But that was with rough facilities and a cheaper coach and minimal staff. The club must be spending a million more a year now Nathan has taken over. Without factoring in any increase in the grant etc, then that $20 million would only last 10 years or so if the Knights wanted to maintain their current lifestyle. Maybe more or less but not forever.

Doesn't matter anyway. Tinkler knows that if he pulled a job like this on the Knights he would be public enemy number one. He'd be a prisoner in his flash new place up at Bar Beach.

Hey $tinkler - is the Jets worth double what Brisbane is worth?

The funny thing about this, is the 'value' of the license is just part of the problem.

It is clear the A-League is heading the way of the NSL. Tinkler is smart to jump ship now, or at the very least, he will be the catalyst that brings sweeping changes to the way the game is run.

Its an all or nothing move, that will get him one or the other.

Hi

I can see why Mr Nathan Tinkler has done what he has, but I believe it could have been done better, maybe a quick meeting or an early letter to let the members, fans and sponsors know what he was going to do would have lightened the blow and possibly reduced the disharmony!

And to Spot On's post!

I am one of the ones who gives a damn about the Jets, as a matter of fact I give a damn about all our sporting teams as they represent the area I reside!

Er... If you have $20 Million and you lose $500K a year, that $20 Million would last a bit longer than 10 years...

Interesting that Andrew Poole has stuck his nose in to the matter in todays Herald. Plenty of people trying to take shots at him for reasons other than the Jets.

And anybody doubting the mans business acumen - he's just about to get "lucky" again....
