‘This was a cracking game’ Erin on the Broncos/Dragons clash Thursday. Obviously she didn’t watch.

I wish Sterlo was the main host. And put Erin as a "On the Grounds" reporter, where she reports for 2 minutes and be gone (like reporting the NSW/Qld Cups). Short and sweet.

Am glad that Allana Ferguson was there. At least she knows about League.

The footy show was funny when I was 10-12. I guess that’s when I surpassed the target audience for the show, so stopped watching it

The show was funny based on the fact that the hosts were pretty bad. The longer it went on it went from a case of laughing with the likes of Vautin to laughing at them. After 20 years as a TV host he struggled with the basics like which camera to look at when he's talking or how to transition from one discussion to another. The fact they clearly never gave him training in that suggests they didn't want to go with it.

They tried to get it to a semi decent analysis show with a stack of part time hosts but in reality when Johns left they never had a host with the charisma to make the comedy work (and I am not a big fan of Matty, but apart from him the rest of them the charisma of a pot plant). When Sterlo left they didn't have the football minds to make the football discussion interesting and the show should have been finished then and there. I still believe the show was at it's best when Johns was hosting after Vautin had his head knock, with Sterlo as the second in command.

The new NRL Footy Show ratings are plummeting.

The Footy Show: Viewers dropping off like flies with audiences averaging just 82,000 in Sydney

Alison Stephenson, The Daily Telegraph
March 17, 2018 12:00am

THE Footy Show’s viewer exodus has continued apace with the embattled Channel Nine show suffering a whopping 31 per cent week-on-week fall in viewers in Sydney alone.

After a shaky start a fortnight ago with Erin Molan in the chair, producers promised improvements but it appears NRL audiences still aren’t buying.

On Thursday the average audience in Sydney was 82,000 — a 31 per cent fall in viewers week-on-week, while in Brisbane the average audience was even less at 70,000 — a 17 per cent fall for the same period. The network announced Molan would take over from the show’s host of 23 years, Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin’, in January in a change heralded as a new era for the flagship league panel show.

But Molan’s debut at the helm started off 8 per cent down in Sydney and Brisbane compared with last year’s first episode headed up by Vautin.

The backlash prompted Nine director of sports Tom Malone to tell the Telegraph’s Buzz Rothfield: “We’re already making improvements for round two.”

But the improvements clearly haven’t worked.

Meanwhile on Foxtel, The Matty Johns Show’s average audience across its first two episodes is up 8 per cent year on year at 116,000.

On a side note I had a bit to do with Matt Utai and he is actually a very nice fellow

Fans have started a Facebook petition page to bring back Fatty Vautin as host and boycott the show until he is brought back. But as this article notes the ratings were going dismal before Fatty was axed. Also Sporting News has suggested they have been told Vautin is enjoying life without the Footy Show, working on his golf game and may not want to come back. Channel Nine executives have also suggested the show that produced in last years format was too expensive to maintain and had to be downsized in costs, particularly because of the ratings it was producing by the end of it's tenure.

Channel Nine under pressure to bring back Paul Vautin as The Footy Show suffers ratings free fall

CHANNEL Nine executives are under increasing pressure to ‘Bring Back the Fat’ as flagship program The Footy Show continues to suffer a ratings free fall.

Only three weeks into its new life without veteran host Paul Vautin, the rugby league staple has gone increasingly backwards in viewer numbers — especially among the key Sydney audience.

Despite now having sports journalist Erin Molan in the host chair, Thursday night’s program tanked again attracting an average audience of just 77,000 in the Harbour City.

The worrying numbers not only continues a downward trend for the show that attracted 88,000 in week one and 82,000 in week two, but represents a 26% decline on the program’s 2017 season average.

As a result, a Facebook petition emerged this week for the return of Vautin, who late last season was axed after 23 years on set.

By Friday afternoon, the page had attracted close to 25,000 ‘likes’.

Exactly what impact Vautin would have on falling ratings is unknown.

However, several sources within the industry believe the current downturn has little to do with the 2018 format, or on-air talent, but rather the ongoing decline of the show’s popularity within recent seasons.

Last year, Nine’s Footy Show ratings slipped to an all-time low with Vautin as host, with reports suggesting viewership numbers were often as bad as 80,000.

That figure is a far cry from the halcyon days when The Footy Show regularly pulled in audiences of 370,00.

As a result, Molan was seen as the obvious choice to help boost viewership, particularly among female fans who had largely deserted the Footy Show for a wealth of Fox League programs headed by Yvonne Sampson.

Still, a poll run by The Daily Telegraph at the time of his axing had 61% of respondents saying Nine should keep Vautin as host.

Apart from dumping Fatty, Nine has also made a series of notable changes to help reverse flagging ratings.

Even after a shaky start this season, executives promised immediate improvements.

On Thursday night, for example, the program broadcast live from AAMI Park following the Grand Final rematch between Melbourne and North Queensland — with fans at the game able to hang around and watch Molan and her colleagues in action.

The move attracted mixed reviews however.

Watching for the first time in ages as I’m up...

Still doing Big Marn with the kids?

Lame as f**k. Lazy, lazy, lazy show programming.

Molan. Put some closed toe shoes on, ya mutt. God she sucks. Seems so on herself for some unknown reason.

Channel Nein is mouldy as f**k. Fox has its faults but sweet Maria, imagine if Nein was still the one (lol) and only option?!

Let’s get more options there and drive Nein further into obscurity.

Those merkins did nothing to grow the game in the country. I had the misfortune of being in Victoria when they wouldn’t show the games before 12:30am so they can go and get their guts f**ked.
