No Australian tv deal yet!

Fox Sports / Stan / Paramount / Amazon / etc can't put the entire World Cup behind a paywall. Kangaroo matches and the RLWC Final are still protected under the anti-siphoning, so must be accessible to everyone via a free medium.

The majority of the World Cup going on Paramount or Stan Sports would be terrible for exposure. Both services have very small market penetration, meaning only the Roos matches on 10 or 9 respectively would get any audiences of note.

If someone like 7 doesn't bid again, Fox Sports + Kayo Freebies would be the best of a bad outcome. At least Kayo has a large RL fan base and does get strong reach these days.

Whilst its terrible that an Australian deal hasn't been sorted, I'm glad the Sports Flick deal fell through. Imagine the tournament being relegated to an unknown hidden away website only service in Rugby League's largest market?
I thought that was only the case if they want it?
If it’s been offered and they’ve shown no interest then surely that clause becomes null and void.

Honestly, who should be blamed for this?

The ARLC who does it's level best to undermine International Rugby League over Origin any chance they can?

The fans who don't turn up for Test matches in fear of a blowout? (Never mind it happens in other sports)

Refusal of the main RL FTA channel to acknowledge IRL? For instance, if a Pom, Kiwi, Fijian etc player has a blinder in a NRL match, have a quick discussion about form and WC consideration.

Some would say it's over in England and it's a crappy timeslot, but that doesn't stop FTA to snap up Rugby, Soccer or Cricket WCs.

It's not ratings, particularly if it's prime time and like 2017, held in OZ and NZ. Past Test matches in Oz some years ago like the Fruday night ANZAC Tests used to get post 1 million in ratings. Ratings mean advertising revenue. Promotion of these high profile Tests means more opportunity for ad revenue. Like Origin.

These snubs by the FTA TV networks are cutting off your nose to spite your face tbh. When are these idiots finally going to get it..

The people whom have consistently devalued International RL as a product since roughly the 90s.

In other words the Super League (News limited 90s SL), ARL, RFL, IRL, etc and arguably a whole bunch of others. Blaming the NRL and broadcasters for doing what's in their best interest considering the circumstances is stupid.

In this particular situation it's pretty obvious who's to blame. The whole reason the NRL has basically zero influence on the current RLWC broadcast negotiations in Aus is because the Poms and IRL were unhappy with the last deal and thought they could do better so they gave them to the World Cup organisers to arrange. Well look how that is turning out...

I swear to God you're actually Gus. Right down to blaming Super League and defending the broadcasters - in particular Nine..

I think the Canberra colours are visual chaff...🤣🤣

The low profile and interest the ARLC shows in the international game is the problem, the rest is just cursory.
When is the last time you saw a story mention the Kangaroos on NRL.Com????
If the governing body doesnt give a sht you can hardly expect the fans and media to care either.

It`s weird because such a hulla-balloo was made when the Kangaroos finally got a shirt front sponsorship with Gallaghers, the multi-national insurance company that also sponsor the English premiership union competition.
In fact at that stage we even had the Gallagher Kangaroo team of the week on NRL.com every week.

Yeh the kangaroos "team of the month' is put on nrl.com as part of the Gallaghers sponsorship deal, just a way of NRL getting the sponsors name on the website every now and again lol.

In a RLWC year there has been two team of the month stories and that is it. Mind you since Vlandys shut it down there is only really reposted player and team news from club websites so I suppose we shouldnt expect much of nrl.com these days.

Ch9 tonight (apart from the ICAC standard bunker issues) had a great chat about some player who had relies in ‘stupor roogby’

Dom Young and Herbie Farnsworth (both English and in Dom’s case Jamaican - who are in the 2022 RLWC) had great game and NOT A SINGLE EFFING mention from the utterly false BS ‘home of rugby league’ about the RLWC.. 😒😒

Why the hell did they give the rights to a startup though? I assume a large payment promised that evaporated with the company

Only if FTA wishes to show it. They are not forced to.

The Kangaroos aren't so mighty anymore, and I guess people in Aus can't handle that.
Internationals involving Australia being a genuine contest would raise interest rather than lower it. The trouble is they aren't, or at least aren't seen by the consumers to be.

They are the Home of Rugby League insofar as they broadcast it and can make money doing so. Clearly they don't see the WC in that light at the current asking price, and nor do the three other major FTA networks. The time difference would certainly not help.
