No team has ever won the premiership after conceding 50pts in a regular season match

I hate this 50 rule too.

Battling clubs like the Raiders and Roosters deserve success.

But what if the "rule" doesnt apply?
Or simply doesnt matter?

what if the result of a teams NSW cup side actually doesnt say anything about their NRL side?
Again, just asking questions

What if the dinosaurs really didn't exist?

Nothing wrong with asking questions. But sometimes you just don't get the answer you want to hear.

There were 7 before today. Now there are only 6. Its going to be a very exciting finals series.

Well if we're doing this though, there isnt 6 and there can never be 6
Because since the NRL era, i.e true professional full time RL, no team has ever won outside the top 4.

And even accounting for the not fully professional era, no team has ever won the comp from outside the top 5...

Intriguing. Some rules can just never be broken.

If anyone is chaotic enough to overcome the curse it’s Sticky, well at least now the Sheenius is in a nursing home.

Ricky will right this minute be taping up a huge poster in the dressing room, alongside all the wooden spoon tips, "No team can win after conceding 50",

"Well they're doing it again boys. Writing us all off like they have all season..." Ricky was running low on siege fuel after all the success and acknowledgement lately. This masterstroke has found the final push.

Other than the Bulldogs from 6th place in 1995. I'd also throw in the Raiders 89 performance, that although they finished 4th, it was a top 5 playoff and they had to play knockout footy every week to win it all. Finshing 4th in that era was like finishing 5th-8th now.

As we're asking questions, can raiders and roosters both win through to the GF, or will the curse ensure that cannot occur, and wield its divine powers in the preliminary finals if necessary?

Ah my mistake, i misremembered and thought the dogs finished 5th that year
in any event the point stands, 1995 in terms of level of professionalism of the code was night and day compared to now... 1989 even more so!

History has shown that in the NRL era, you have to finish in the top 4 to win a premiership.

Well I'm not sure that its 100% true. Teams make it from down the table to the big one. And you know a team will win it one day and some teams have been close on the day. It's jsut hard when you have to play 4 teams in a row who are very very good. That only 2 teams have been able to win 4 in a row in any era, not just the NRL era, suggests it is difficult to do.

Was listening to the Jame Graham podcast and he said if this years Panthers can't do it, then it can't be done in the NRL era.

I'd probably agree that winning 4 in a row is too hard. But if we go to 20 teams and they introduce conferences and it's a straight knockout with no second chances, I think we will get more varied teams winning from all sorts of positions.

Of all the teams remaining, I'd prefer to see Canberra get up and win the comp. They've deserved it for the year they've had.

But...

Part of me now doesn't want them to win it because I'd miss this thread going forward.
The new thread would be no team has won the premiership after conceding 63 points in the regular season
