No team has ever won the premiership after conceding 50pts in a regular season match

17. Will the 50-point statistic stand?

It's the best and well-known stat in rugby league: no team has ever won a premiership after conceding 50 points or more during the NRL regular season. Under this mantra, that immediately rules the Raiders, who conceded 53 to Penrith and Cronulla, who conceded 54 to Melbourne, out of the title race. The Eels went close last year to defying those odds – can the Green Machine and Sharks go a step further and bury it once and for all?

ROFL! I was thinking exactly the same when I read that part in bold. Very poor research from Alicia.

Eels did make the Grand Final in 2022. However, the only problem is the max. number of points they conceded in a game during the 2022 season was 36! (against the Broncos).

If Alicia bothered to go back one more year, she would find the Rabbitohs are the team that's gone closest to breaking the curse. Made the GF after conceding 50 twice during 2021, but fell 2 points short on the big stage.

Yeah I dont know what these jurnos do if they throw these stats in that are completely false. I seem to recall in 2022 when the Broncos were going ok but then conceded 60 and 53 in consecutive weeks ruling them out the season and then ended up crashing out of the 8 anyway.

Yeah Souths came close. I'm pretty sure the Roosters in 2010 conceded 60 but ended up in the GF.

Correct. I remember the Roosters conceding 60 vs Bulldogs early in the season, made the GF and lost by 24 points.

Cowboys made the GF in 2005 after conceding 50 vs Parramatta, as well as 50 vs Tigers in week 1 of the finals, but lost by 14 points in the GF

I should have known better.

Penrith have too much respect for their opposition. Totally and utterly demolished the Bulldogs today however they aren't greedy. 50 is not necessary.

Is that why they did a short kick off with 2 mins to go?

2005 was the closest it came to be broken, when 7 of the 8 final teams had been beaten by 50
The Tigers had a few near misses. There was one game the Broncos put 40 on at the hour mark then shut up shop. The next week they as when our run started.
