No team has ever won the premiership after conceding 50pts in a regular season match

No team has ever been in as red hot form after conceding 50 the way we have. Souths is the form team of the comp right now and this little statistical anomaly could end in 2024.
Remember when Souths had about 4 weeks of excellence this season after conceding 50? Only thing that kept them off the bottom because that run aside they’ve been the worst team this season by a mile.

Excellence is a massive stretch. I saw first hand last night just how mediocre they are.

They won 5 on the bounce. Brisbane, Titans, Sea Eagles and Parramatta twice. Also had two byes worked into that stretch.
The win against Manly was without DCE, Turbo, Jurbo, Olakau'atu, Oshay Olay, Paseka, Garrick, Sipley, Croker and a couple of others (at least 1 other stood down under concussion protocols from memory). Souths were hardly world beaters.

True, I’ll put it another way.

Between rounds 12-18 souths won 5 games and had 2 byes. In rounds 1-11 and 19-25 they’ve had 1 bye and won 2 games.

5 wins on the bounce in a season where they’ve chalked up 7

Of a teams 1-12 that is still in the race, how many has 50 on them?

Only Dragons (the 60 point ANZAC game) at the moment, but quite a few have multiple 40+scores on them (as well as dishing out 40+ scores to opponents).

Here's the highest score put against each team to date (Panthers highest was still a win against Eels):

Storm (26)
Roosters (38)
Sharks (42)
Panthers (34 win, 32 loss)
Bulldogs (26)
Cowboys (42)
Sea Eagles (34)
Dragons (60)

Broncos (46)
Dolphins (48)
Knights (44)
Raiders (48)

We lost to the storm 40-28. 2 of the top 4 copper their highest score against in a win. The Dogs copped 26 a few times including a win.

Prompted me to have a geeze at our margins, we’ve had poor defence all season, but up until now are biggest losing margins are 14 (Souths), 10 (Panthers), and 8 (Dragons, Tigers)

Conceded 34 twice, to Roosters and Tigers by 4 and 8.
32 once, to Penrith losing by 10.
Couple of close losses conceding 30.

Thank f**k we can score points because we bleed em, has stopped thrashings.

Besides our shiteness it's been the absolute worst season I can remember for us on the injury front, especially when it comes to key players.

Latrell Mitchell, Cameron Murray, Campbell Graham, Jai Arrow, Junior Tatola, Alex Johnston, Isaiah Tass and Tyrone Munro - that's 8 of our first choice 13 - only played a combined 65 games in 2024. Mental.

And I'm not counting others who you could argue a spot for like Lachlan Ilias (2 games), Shaq Mitchell (6 games), Jacob Host (12 games), etc.

So our best players have been injured and their backups have been injured. That 5 week period was the only time we had some semblance of consistency in the lineup.

I'm glad Wayne is replacing the "High Performance" team because we're the worst prepared (physically) side in the League.
