No Test for Sydney

No, the question was correct. What is a "yo-yos" - in reference to THE "yo-yos" that Santa alegedly bought me.

Using correct grammar rules, the plural of "yo-yo" is "yo-yoes".

However, the sublect matter is not a "yo-yo", but a "yo-yos".

BTW, by defenition, a Trans Tasman test cannot involve Brisbane, because then it would be a Trans Coral/Tasman test. The Tasman sea lies between NSW and NZ.

The Comets home ground -is that where all the ex broncos fans from 1993 went?

So Brisbane's population has grown by 1 million in about 7 years?? Yeah i didn't think so...

We're at 2 mill now? Maybe if you include the Gold and Sunny Coasts... Last I heard BRISBANE's pop was around 1.3m

According to Wikipedia, you are way off the mark.

Brisbane - 1,810,943 (metro)
Gold Coast - 432,037
Sunshine Coast - 212,864

Ok, on double checking I was wrong - 1.5 mil in 1999 from the Wiki source.

So that's still, what - half the size of Sydney? With a crowd just under half that of Sydneys from this Trinations final?

Seriously I'm not trying to drag your city through the mud here - I'm just saying that 28k is woeful, and we shouldn't be comparing it with 12k in Brisbane.

On a per capita basis alone, 12.5k in Brissie in 1999 is equal to around 25k in Sydney today.

Add to that the fact that International RL has grown a dickload in the past seven years... and it should just have been a better crowd in Sydney. Deadset I'm surprised at the lengths people are going to in order to defend a crowd for the international final which was worse than some NRL games this year.

Don't point the finger at the general sydney population though, its more like the media who are dragging international RL through the mud. Yes, Sydney's NRL crowds were down this year, however they were still the 2nd biggest overall on record. There were numerous occasions where 20k was drawn despite multiple games on the same weekend, heck even on the same day. There were even a few occasions when 30k was drawn to a Sydney game. The 3 on top of my head were Bulldogs v Tigers, Bulldogs v Dragons, and the ANZAC Dragons v Roosters game.

We can obviously draw crowds to NRL games, its time for the media to start promoting International RL better. Instead of saying that AUS v NZ games will never be as good as Origin, we should be looking to expand the game internationally in the future. Thats the reason behind the low crowds for the Sydney TN's games. I was at the first game, but i didn't attend the 2nd game because of work (i would have loved to go to that though).

If it wasn't for Willie Mason and his antics throughout the series trying to promote the game, the crowds may have been even worse IMO.

Anytime Melbourne draws a bigger crowd than Sydney you know things are not well! Stop defending Sydney's sh*te crowd, it was poor, it reflectled poorly (just like the semi crowds) and some serious marketing strategies need to be employed to get RL back to where it should be in the city.

Many younger RL fans have no idea about international RL... just look at the "Vote for Rugby League" thread.... quite a few have never heard of the RL ashes.... the ashes have been played over 40 times ( ithink it's over 40 times) since 1908..

How about stop attacking Sydney for the crowd, and Sydneysiders will stop defending it!

How are the Perth RL crowds looking in recent years???

What's to not attack? It was a sh*t crowd. The latest in a long line. Time to fish where the fish are.

Yeh good argument Misty. Now if you want to talk about how are Perths sporting crowds generally ie the 35,000 average dockers or the 40,000 Eagles or the 30,000 Force or the sell out internationals we can compare apples with apples and once again suggest that RL in Sydney has a serious need to take a hard look at itself and realise that it can no longer rely on RL as the No1 status and start marketing itself.

How about your AVERAGE crowd, Perthboy? Was it good enogh to see another season, like all those Sydney sides you want to deathride?

And wtf have AFL figures got to do with it? Clutching at straws there!AFL crowds are a great indicator as to how big a RL crowd will be. Look at melbourne for instance!

Is the paying crowd record at the WACA still held by Balmain and Parramatta?

BTW, Sydneybashers, I just checked the records. IN home tests v England/GB, New Zealand and France played in Sydney or Brisbane, the 12511 at Suncorp v GB in 1999 is the LOWEST EVER IN AUSTRALIA!!!!!

Other home tests in other centres for comparison: 1988 v PNG at Wagga - 11685; 1992 v PNG at Townsville - 12470; 1990 v France at Parkes - 12384; and 1994 v France, Parramatta -27 318 (sold out).

So, Brisbane holds the dubious record of having the lowest test crowd on record in a state capital in Australia. Also, check how many times Sydney crowds have topped 50k (they have against all 3 other major test nations) and even got the SCG's second biggest ever crowd when 70k turned up to see the Poms in the late 1950's.

Honestly Misty, dont even bother mate. These idiots wouldnt know sh!t from clay. THERE IS NO RUGBY LEAGUE WITHOUT SYDNEY, morons. Take a look at the sponsors of the Sydney teams, and take a look at the sponsors for the feral ring-ins from abroad. Without Sydney, the game is COMPLETELY DEAD. You know its true as well, but you dont have the guts, or even brains to admit it.

Look at this Perth Red clown. He honestly thought that the Roosters were one of the poorest clubs. What the hell does he know ? Forget it mate.

Hey there, Einstein. Here's a link to the spelling of yo-yos: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/yo-yo. You are quite an advertisement for your state, Misty. Hope that this "sublect matter" isn't stretching you too much.

I am NOT deathriding Sydney and I KNOW without Sydney there is no RL.

Look, the problem is here and now... we are now in 2007 and this is what is happening. Crowds in Sydney for internationals are horrible and something HAS to be done about them.

Yes Brisbane has the lowest test crowd on record for a capital city. Now 8 years ago.

Y'know what happened to Brisbane? After that dismal performance we didn't see a test match for FIVE whole years as they were constantly taken to Sydney and Newcastle.

Yes Misty Sydney has a great history of crowds at test matches, far better than Brisbane.

But that has nothing to do with the fact that there is a problem down Sydney way now.

Saying otherwise is like justifying St George's long run of not winning a GF, saying it doesn't matter because they won plenty forty years ago. True enough, but still doesn't deal with the problem at hand.

Bit hard to have an average crowd when we don't have a team dick!

You asked how was Perth's crowd figures "in the last few years"? I gave you the answer. Argument is lost Misty, give it up before you embarass yourself any further.

Idiot..

The crowd for a one off game was about equal (or even worse) to most Sydney teams averages. If you's got a team, the crowds would be even smaller because there would be a game every 2nd weekend. Your only embarassing yourself mate.

"You's" ??????????

But if they had a team, the fans would be coming for "their" team, not 2 ring-ins!
