Nobody Comes To The Sharks

Langer's personal problem very similar to that of M Sullivan. This received a tiny bit of press in the Brisbane press in the late 90s, but virtually none in Sydney. My brother was living on the Sunshine Coast at the time and he told me about it.

The SHarks have traditionally never been in the big money, have heavily relied on juniors or unearthing good junior talent. Our success in the 90s was good planning through forced circumstance. Artie Beetson as coach in 92 & 93 (when we were in liquidation) signed up a lot of willing kids, who together with a good wave of talented locals got the Under 23 team to 2 grand finals in 93 & 94. This was the bunch who formed the nucleus of the successful John Lang coached teams, imports like Peachey, Russell Richardson and Craig Greenhill and locals like Dean Treister, Nathan Long, Sean Ryan, Nick Graham, Matt Rogers, Brett Howland, Adam Dykes etc. We could have blown a lot more money and done a lot worse like Parramatta.

This is seemed to be the line Ando was looking to take. He recognised the potential in youngsters such as Galloway, Williams, Aitken, Ciraldo and Simmons and was prepared to give them a chance. He ultimately paid the price for this but its interesting to note two years on and the ones being persisted with (Williams, Galloway and even Simmo) are starting to show what they they can do.

Yes it was formalised under Opes. The Pathways Program. Don't know if it's still going down there or not.

weve signed heaps of big names lately. most notably

kimmorley- best half ive ever seen at cronulla and showed his passion 4 us even when he was booed
vagana - maybe a little bit overpaid i feel but he is still going ok
covell - blockbusting winger who has been a revelation, many compare to matt rogers.

I thought Covell was a centre. Only started playing on the wing when he came to us as I can't recall him having played there with the Tiges.

Shpws how inept our management is- heres the knights who are basically broke, only just obtained a major sponsor, have people resigning left right and centre( office) and yet they can sign Davico, and Carney (1yr).
Whos coming to the sharks- f**king nobody.Congratulations sharks mangement team, stroke of genius!
