I think most kids would prefer to play for their areas rep team and still be able to live at home or not travel hours to training and play for their local team. Having Illawarra junior reps gave south coast youngsters that opportunity.
Although I guess they still could and align with an NRL team like Central Coast do with the Rooster

I doubt they are going to dismantle their pathways any more than the Chooks are going to cut away their programs on the Central Coast or the Panthers will in Central West NSW. This is just a name change for the a Dragons. St George is cool name whereas St George-Illawarra sounds like an amateur club.
