Last round Panthers vs Cowboys. Good chance Penrith rest a bunch of their stars. Not good for us.

Buried in the Fox/360 article...

PANTHERS SET TO LOCK UP NO.1 MAN

THE Panthers remain on track to sign Clive Churchill Medallist Dylan Edwards with the only sticking points the length of the contract and the money.

Surely the only main aspects of a contract are... the money and the duration?

Well there's also the matter of which pen they will use to actually sign the contract... Apparently that has been locked in, everyone is on the same page...

Thoughts on this one.

Would you be happy if this was parramatta and decided to do this.

Morally manly probably promised him a contract beforehand but still your only weakening your roster next year on a bloke who has proven to be a cancer in club cultures spending the majority of year in rehab.

I absolutely cannot believe Manly are contemplating offering him a deal for next year. It's bizarre. I would be livid if it was Parra doing the same thing...

I just went back and had a look a the end of year ladders for the last few years.
Over the period from 2020-2023 (obviously three rounds to go still this year), Penrith has lost only 13 games.

We have lost 11 already this year. Very much a chance to finish with 13. That's the same amount of losses that the Panthers have had over a 4-year period.

Tigers have had 67.
Bulldogs 69.

That is just an incredible run. A proper sports dynasty. Great for that club.

Also shows the salary cap does f**k all.

For 7 years leading into 2020 Penrith were a middle of the road team.

You could argue they wasted the Griffin years. As they had a good enough roster to be top 4 between 2017-2019.

In saying that would Ivan still be there if he didn't get tired.

The Eels are probably in the same situation right now.
Decent team that can make the Finals, but have the odd year where they can't get it together.

I'm not sure it was changing Griffin for Cleary that was the catalyst for the change in fortunes, but they certainly kicked it up a gear when he came along. Timed it well with their young players coming of age.
